There's probably going to be extreme pressure by the state parties to only have one "legitimate" candidate (easier for the Dems, since they only have two in the district). That probably won't stop Angle, though.

Kate Marshall is in. Derby has yet to back out.

Free for all will be interesting.

Krolicki has passed on running. Looks like the Republicans are probably going to unite behind Amodei (except for Angle, of course).

You're likely right, but Greg Brower is still in.

They should be unifying behind her instead. We need more Cynthia McKinney-like Representatives in terms of personality. Considering the district is Angle's backyard basically, I say she has a decent chance of winning.

Amodei is in.

http://www.rollcall.com/news/Mark-Amodei-Nevada-Special-Election-205438-1.html?pos=opolh

Amodei would be the fourth Republican to enter the race, following retired Navy Cmdr. Kirk Lippold, state Sen. Greg Brower and 2010 Senate candidate Sharron Angle. Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced last week that he would not run.

Three Democrats, including state Treasurer Kate Marshall and former House candidate Jill Derby, are also running in the all-party, winner-take-all election.

If I were in Congress I'd introduce a bill to ban these type of special elections. They are ridiculous and blatantly undemocratic.

But they make election-tracking all the more interesting.  It's still a democratic process, some would argue more so than the primary process.

A court has sided with the Republicans and changed it to a typical each-party-gets-to-nominate-a-candidate style. Sad

Ruling will be appealed.

Angle has now said she will not run in the special election. I'm not sure what her plan is if a Republican wins the race.

Derby has supposedly dropped out, probably since she realizes Marshall is a lock to get the nomination.

Amodei vs. Marshall it is then.  That's assuming the judge's ruling is upheld, and the parties nominate their candidates by committee.  Amodei has rather an advantage over his opponents there...

Interesting Ralston interview with Ross Miller, re: ballot royale:

http://www.lasvegassun.com/videos/2011/may/30/5190/  (after 2:35)

So, if the ruling is upheld, we'll know the nominees by the end of this month.

Jon Ralston just tweeted that the Republicans picked Amodei on the first ballot.

No surprise there.

FTR, Amodei won 221 votes, Greg Brower won 56, and Kirk Lippold 46.  Lippold has said he'll continue his campaign anyway, presumably now in hope that Miller's ruling is upheld.

The Dems will meet next Saturday to anoint Kate Marshall.

Don't worry guys, this Amodei guy is already giving off pretty strong Sharon Angle 2.0 vibes (this time with added racism!):

I guess subtitles were considered too burdensome for the target group of this ad.

Oh, so the Republicans aren't actually trying to win this election. Good to know.

It's not uncommon for Republicans in unwinnable seats to run crazy ads that the base loves and everyone else finds batsh**t insane (remember that black Republican in North Carolina in 2006 whose ads went viral?) It's another thing to do it in a special election in a previously held GOP seat.

Kate Marshall won the Dem nomination today... 117 votes out of 122.

On Tuesday the NV Supreme Court will hear the case against Miller to see if it'll just be Amodei vs. Marshall, or all 29 (!) candidates who filed to run.
