Jeff Sessions is a good Alabaman republican. I mean, I don't think it's fair to stereotype an entire state party.

Well, I'm more of the mind that it's not so much the state party as it is the entire state. Alabama is practically the commanding hub of the Bible Belt, so I'm assuming this sort of thing is standard practice. The thing is, judging by the likes of Riley, Bentley, and Moore, the state Republicans just seem to be more vocal about it.

Oh, so he was. That seems to have been back in the 80s, though, when Southern Democrats were actually that way, instead of being gargantuan moderate heroes.

     Uncoincidentally, that was also when Southern Democrats actually held power, rather than being obligatory sacrificial lambs with no hope of attaining office beyond being a Representative in the Black Belt.
