One less potential opponent for Snowe - and a big road block for potential primary opponents.

That won't stop the Tea Party. They have their candidate, but aren't saying who it is yet http://www.rollcall.com/news/-200953-1.html

I never thought that LePage would challenge Snowe. Running for another office after less than two years in your first term wouldn't sit well with voters.

Well, true as that is, I certainly didn't expect him to endorse Snowe.

I second this.

We can't afford to loose Snowe if we are to recapture the Senate in 2012.

This was always gonna be a tough race even if LePaige didn't endorse her. She still enjoys a 56% approval rating eventhough she has not stood up to the GOP like she did in the beginning of the Obama administration.

You clearly don't know their history then.

I'm not sure if I'm so eager to support Snowe anymore, considering she voted for the stimulus.  Judging from recent statements, she may be changing her positions on certain things, but I don't know if I am willing to forgive her on her past votes.

Nonetheless, she would be better than a Democrat, and I would support her if it comes down to that.

You should consider the fact that a different Republican likely wouldn't defeat the Democrat in Maine under normal circumstances.

No one whould have her stature or electability. There are some Republicans that can win that seat, whether they can win primaries is another matter however. Abbot or Mills comes to mind. How old is Snowe?

He can't be less formidable than Christine O'Donnell, can he?

63. Abbott and Mills don't strike me as Tea Party types though. Abbott is close to Collins, and Mills presents himself as a Snowe type moderate. Judging by the brilliantly bad candidates the Tea Party has mostly found so far, I wouldn't expect them to deliver an electable alternative.

The story I am hearing is that Snowe is undecided on running, would prefer to retire, and is mainly concerned that her preferred successor, new State Senate President Kevin Raye, is able to get through the primary. Contrary to discussion on-line, the Snowe team does not think she will have much trouble winning a new term. The bigger concern is that since 2006 there have been two-statewide gubernatorial primaries where the establishment candidates were crushed by nobodies. And Snowe does not want Chellie Pingree in the senate anymore than a tea partier.

Two moderates who usually side with the GOP are a lot worse than two liberals who are a rubber stamp to Barack Obama.

Yeah, the Democratic Party doesn't work like that.

I'm calling it.  The Tea Party challenger to Snowe is none other than our friend Chandler Woodcock.

It does where Obama comes from.
