I think every war supporter should have to fight in the war he or she supports.  When he or she has been shot at and can't sleep at night because of the mental image of someone's head being blown off, then we'll see how much they support the war.

Did he really oppose detente, though? I thought that his positions were similar to Reagan's on this issue. Of course, Jackson died before Gorbachev came to power, so we'll never know.

I'm talking about detente in 1970s. From my Polish POV I can tell you Nixon/Kissinger policies toward USSR did more to end Cold War in next decade than hawks like Jackson or Reagan.
