His only real Rovian tactic that I can think of off hand - trying to 'otherize' Obama - was rejected.

Rove and [especially] Atwater made their careers out of playing the race card and 'ratfucking' opposing campaigns, and the candidates they supported had no problem with it.

Very mixed feelings.

I agree with the hardcore, hardball campaign tactics he employed in getting President Bush and other Republicans elected.  Democrats are certainly not going to play fair and Rove realized the "kinder, gentler" approach was no longer working for the GOP.

On the other hand, he clearly had a hand in spinning the debate and getting us into a war we didn't need to be fighting.  I don't miss Saddam, of course...but the whole WMD and Saddam is in bed with Bin laden chants were insanely deceptive and counterproductive.
