If we know terrorists are using the Internet to plan how to hurt Americans, we need to give our President the tools he needs to keep us safe.

I'm not going to tell that mother waiting outside her kids' pre-school to pick little Caitlin and Ethan up that we didn't do everything in our power to protect them from evildoers. Will you?

I wonder what you would be saying if Bush had ever dared to propose such a measure.

Always been a big fan of "emergency powers" BTW.  Really healthy for liberty.

A thoroughly disgusting bill, but what else would you expect out of the American government?

I intentionally made it specific, because I'm an eternal optimist who thinks that a truly minarchistic government might be decent. Wink

Emergency powers are the kind of things you need to have in case liberty is ever seriously threatened. If the zombies arrive in my town, I'd like us to be prepared.

Who is Bill, and how did he get control of the internet in the first place?

Obviously if Bush was president I would be more distrustful of this bill but I'd still support this.
It'll still be law when the next Republican president comes into office.

Unless repealed.

I support this bill now. However if a Republican will take over after Obama I would support him repealing it as a lame duck.

This is an awful bill. In no circumstances will this help the war on terror. This bill is fascistic in nature, like the Patriot Act.

Ummm... I did read all of it, and it is vague as to what constitutes an emergency (vague legislation coming out of the Democratic camp... that's new), and vague about the "powers" allotted.  I could care less who was in power.  I am very confused, at this point, as to exactly what the difference is between Bush and Obama on civil liberties, and the people who were screaming the loudest under Bush generally seem to care the least now that the omnipotent, omniscient, all wise, all caring, all fair, all judicious, all trustworthy President Barack Obama is in power.

Nevermind that of all the Presidents in the last half century, we probably know the least about him (and no, I am not asking him to "show the certificate"), and what he thinks past the campaign rhetoric.
