As Nathan said before his post mysteriously disappeared, I question the purpose you wanted to fulfill by posting this thread.

Perhaps.  Of course, if Moses were here he'd argue that using your own moral standards to outweigh a direct order from God is, in fact, proof of your depravity, because anything God orders is by definition good.

I tried to edit it and deleted it by accident.

The 'director's cut' of that post would have read 'I have to wonder what sort of discussion you hope to start by asking this question, and why.'

Hmmm good point.  Sad people will kill in the name of God

Highly recommend you check out Paradise Lost: Milton makes a good case that by attempting to judge God by human moral standards and second-guessing His decisions and questioning His authority you've already committed the same fundamental sins as Satan himself.

Milton's pretty great, it's a shame he doesn't get read as much anymore.

Only on this forum would the red avatars and blue avatars be taking the stance they are on this page.

I think the answer is that Moses was a character in a series of stories from a time we'd consider excessively barbaric. So, the answer is obvious.

I like Milton. And considering Milton's politics (Tenure of Kings and Magistrates), disdain for the Catholic bureaucracy, and the political allegory of P.L., it kind of implies that Satan is doing Adam and Eve a favor! I love it. The overt, sympathetic references to Galileo open the possibility that God could be the pope or the king in political context as well.
