Perhaps.  Of course, if Moses were here he'd argue that using your own moral standards to outweigh a direct order from God is, in fact, proof of your depravity, because anything God orders is by definition good.

I think the answer is that Moses was a character in a series of stories from a time we'd consider excessively barbaric. So, the answer is obvious.

I like Milton. And considering Milton's politics (Tenure of Kings and Magistrates), disdain for the Catholic bureaucracy, and the political allegory of P.L., it kind of implies that Satan is doing Adam and Eve a favor! I love it. The overt, sympathetic references to Galileo open the possibility that God could be the pope or the king in political context as well.
