The Office of Senator PyroTheFox
Representing the People of Atlasia.

Welcome, Atlasians, to my official Senate Office thread!

Complete with cozy, mid-century decor and a quiet stream of yacht rock, please consider this public office available for use at all times. I plan to maintain this space for periodic statements, non-campaign announcements, and any other miscellaneous thoughts. A separate post will be created to document my legislation proposals and votes as well. For any vote or decision that requires a bit more explanation, I plan to detail that activity in this office.

As I pledged in my campaign, I fully intend on making this term a collaborative one. Keeping an open mind, and my ear to the ground, will ideally prove my dedication to accessibility. I thoroughly invite you to submit questions or comments regarding my service in Congress and Atlasia overall, and I will do my best to answer. Visitors are always welcome.

From the Desk of Senator PyroTheFox
Representing the People of Atlasia.

Good Evening, Atlasians. I hope all of those celebrating enjoyed this past Easter as well as Passover. Spring is showing its warm glow here in the Empire State, at long last. I wish spirits were equally high in Nyman, but as we approach the midterm season, action has slowed to a near-standstill. Several bills put forward on the opening days of the 114th Senate remain stationary, either deliberately deadlocked or lost in a sea of inactivity.

It has been my mission to keep an open mind and be amenable to voices on all sides, and I believe I have done so during my time in Congress. However, certain facets of this session of the Senate have raised concerns. I suppose you can credit it to my naive optimism, stemming from a time when we focused on legislation once the elections had drawn to a close. Now, I fear that a blanket of tribalist distrust and unease has totally obliterated the common sense of mutual comradery in lawmaking. From an apparent flooding of the legislative queue to block members of the President's party from introducing our ideas, to the promotion of arbitrary rule changes designed to neuter the ability of lawmakers to enact serious change, it's clear that some folks have no intention whatsoever in governing. To some ideologues who prefer to keep themselves confined to walled-off Discord servers, it's only about their side besting the other side.

Now we are seeing the result of this foolhardy strategy. Disinterest. Some senators are completely MIA, failing to show up for votes or even advocate for their own bills. Standing legislation is receiving little to no debate whatsoever, despite my efforts to stir activity and conversation. We are facing compounding dilemmas as a nation, particularly with regards to the South determined to dissolve the Union and their Federalist allies in Congress seeking to annihilate the Constitutional authority of the federal government. We need to act. This includes the sitting President as well, who I sincerely hope will be more engaged moving forward.

I would like to give thanks to Senator Scott for stepping up as Deputy PPT in this time of legislative crisis. I do hope all elected officials can put aside the ridiculous theatrics and squabbling, and work in earnest to improve this country.

It's disappointing to see the Vice President recommend this partisan speech. I wonder if I was too quick to trust when it came to his nomination.

It’s clear there’s a big legislative logjam going on right now. I would strongly encourage all Senators to work on getting their talking points up quickly and timely for each debate, so you guys can move these bills along

A lot of elected Senators don't want to do much more than vote but I doubt rushing to vote on legislation in general will cure that. I thought people were just saying things were moving too quickly in the last Senate?

Opening a million cloture / tabling votes without good reason isn't productive either. Only delays acts being passed and the backlog being finished even more.

You're behaving very obstructionist in the senate, and it's part of the reason why things are not moving. It's like doing a government shutdown and than wondering why the government doesn't work.

Aside of that, Mr. R has health issues, NCY has health issues (i wish them a good recovery), and quite a few senators are less active or burned out - and from all sides.

A million cloture/tabling votes, hm? If you care to check the record, you would see that I've posted three motions to table for the entire duration of this session, one of which was withdrawn. As for cloture votes, if you take a look at the OSPR, you will see that objections made against a final vote motion necessitate a vote to end debate. If any elected senator is of the belief that legislation is not yet ready to come to a final vote, it is within their rights to object to that vote (and I believe senators from all parties, especially your own, have been frequently utilizing this right). If you have an issue with that, you are free to introduce a rules change. I for one am glad that we do not operate beneath an authoritarian system that forces votes without giving elected officials the opportunity to voice their disagreement.

I've been vocally pushing for debate and activity, despite others failing to show up for votes or advocating for their own bills. I may be the only senator from the Labor Party doing so. It's sad to see your ire directed at me instead of those who neglect to show up or are fighting to destroy Atlasia as we know it.

The proxy business is concerning too since as it stands if the proxy amendment is not passed soon we will have to vote twice on all votes due to Senator Pyro's objections, gumming up the works in the Senate even more.

Did you seriously accuse me of being passive aggressive in another thread, only to post this here?? Can we please not. I told you I would be honest about my opinions and I thought that good-faith admission is exactly why you voted for me despite our disagreements. I'm the same person I was when you made that choice, which I'm still grateful for.

Where's the contradiction? Your tone was passive-aggressive and at least two others agreed, unless you were just being extremely sarcastic in which case there's not much difference between that and being passive-aggressive.

If I see a clear inconsistency in your demeanor/messaging, I'm not going to ignore even if you choose to take it personally. It's not a contradiction to suggest that people should be pro-civility-in-politics and not passive-aggressive when we're just discussing a possible constitutional change, in fact, the two traits are conjoined.

And in my defense, even if you were being sincere, 9 times out of 10 when the words you said in the other thread come out of someone's mouth, the intent is not genuine. It's hard to believe that wasn't the case. Your recommendation of divisive comments by Griff also do not inspire much confidence that you are truly advocating for cooperation and engagement in good faith.
