Delaware has good fast food restaraunts that I stop at when I go up to NYC. And great gas stations. If going north, get gas in Delaware, or have it pumped for you in New Jersey.

Their service plaza near Newark is pretty good on I-95.  I also like the University of Delaware for partying.  2 of my cousins went there.  Also there's no sales tax!

Unfortunately, I only know Delaware as a state to pass through on the way to Maryland and places south of there.  My only stops there were for meals along the highway.

I guess it has an edge over Rhode Island since I never got popped for speeding there, though I sure deserved to be.  Driving through, it only takes about ten minutes to pass from New Jersey into Maryland.

I have heard that Delaware has great beaches.  Some people I know have been to Dewey Beach and really liked it.

I know nothing about it other than it goes Democrat, it's tiny, and there is a city called Wilmington there.

I remember that I memorized every capital city in the US for this one thing I was doing, and Delaware's is the only one that I can't remember. Smiley

Dover. I've never been to Dover. Only Wilmington, really; I have cousins there.

I've been in Delaware about one hour.  I was visiting a friend in West Chester, PA and we went out to get cheesesteaks.  I didn't know we were in Delaware until my bill rang up without sales tax.  Despite the fact that the sandwich was good, I still don't have an opinion on the state.

The Government of the State of Delaware forms one of the best arguments against Federalism.

What's wrong with it?

Delaware does a lot of things with its corporate and tax law to encourage companies with no real tie there to incorporate there.  It does so because the filing fees and such help to lower its taxes  Those things generally cause trouble for other States that wish to regulate what corporations can do, but because of the full faith and credit clause, if one State (and that State is usually Delaware) grants a corporation some ability, pretty much every State has to.  They also maintain on their puny little piece of I-95 the highest per mile toll on any US road since its almost all thru-traffic, so its residents don'thave to pay it.  In short, Delaware sponges off the 49 other States in a way not too dissimilar to certain Caribbean islands do with respect to other nations by abusing its rights under the Constitution.

If there had been no Civil War and no 13th Amendment I have no doubt that Delaware would be the only State in the Union where slavery was legal today and yet because of the logical extention of the Dred Scott doctrine you would find slaves in all 50 States that were owned by corporations chartered in the State of Delaware.

I'm not normally this anti-corporation in outlook, but the way Delaware does business raises my hackles to extreme.

Ernest is quite right on this.

I must admit myself that if I have to buy expensive retail items, I'll always drive the 50 or so miles to shop in Delaware, but I agree about the tollway and the other business actions of the state.  Just a big pain in the neck.

If I'm driving up to NYC, I always buy gas in NJ.  Gas is cheaper than Maryland or Delaware and there's no self-service there.  NJ has some of the cheapest gas in the nation (because of refineries in Newark, etc..), even cheaper sometimes than Louisiana or Mississippi, which are almost always the cheapest.
