Yes, mainly due to national security reasons. I believe those agencies in charge, here in the USA, about possible security risks.
But this comment also holds some water ...


The main reason to ban it is for retaliatory protectionism.  Other countries may restrict what American social media can put on but still allow them to profit. China simply bans American social media even if they were to abide by their rules.
