I would like for the Progressive Union to strongly consider endorsing SirNick and me in the Presidential election - regardless of party status. I've shown myself to be a responsible, active leftist open to compromise, and I think I would represent you well. If you have any questions, ask. Smiley

Thanks everybody! I get along well with literally everyone here, so it'll be my pleasure to work with you all. Smiley I'll offer a toast. . . I think in the coming months we can do some special things.

Yes, always good to see Scott active - and thanks, Siren. It's cool to see the center left so active and passionate about getting behind people. My hope was that our campaigns would cooperate. Smiley

Yes, a big welcome and a toast to the new members!

Also, I have reviewed the platform and I think it is spot on. A bold progressive social agenda with a mainstream progressive economic plan - nothing wild-eyed there. Nice job, guys! I like the bit about science and the approach to faith as a private matter, so things are off and running, I think.

Awesome! Keep it rolling. A welcome to the newbies and a big welcome to Spamage.

One thought I had about the platform is that I like that it's not in super specific manifesto format. I think we want as big a tent as we can support, and what you guys are putting together does that. We're an open-minded mainstream center center-left party, so it looks great. I don't think we're as much about having everybody lockstep on some sort of mission as we are accepting people who want to participate and have something in common with us.

As someone who hasn't been the best of friends with your kind over the years, can you guys explain to me why some among your number oppose the tradition of loonyism that has pervaded the Midwest since its inception, as well as the inclusion of a jolt of fun into the Pacific Region that made this game more fun that it had been in a while? Are you guys attempting to be the Serious People Party?

Why have you not been the best of friends with "our kind"?

To answer, I'm not sure what loonyism brings to the table. For example, there are Very Serious Laborites - in the Senate - who write Very Serious Legislation. Yet in some sort of ivory tower disconnect they endorse loonyism. what if the Senate were shut down as the Pacific had been? Or if an Acting President wrote asinine rewrites of their bills, referencing all sorts of nonsense and turning the bills upside down? That would be loony! No, it would be childish.

I think loonyism exposes a bigger problem than inactivity: that some folks endorse people, not ideas, and not actions. Just people.

The fact is, the vast majority of folks here like to write legislation and see if they can get their peers to help pass it. That's kind of the point, and loonyism does nothing more than disrupt it.

I'm generally available. I think strategizing with regard to the At Large Senate race is a good idea, publicly or privately, as well as keeping newbies in the loop. I'm more of an Xs and Os guy than a recruiter. Wink And keeping everyone together is of paramount importance.

I'm generally available, as I mentioned, but Napoleon's experience and political success make him the chief adviser here. I may or may not run for the Senate: my heart says yes, my brain says no. I often listen to my heart and then find myself saying, yep, I should have listened to my brain. Wink

Okay, my accomplishments:

I was the attorney general from March through October, 2013
     Regularly updated the Wiki
Played a key role in the restoration of the Pacific
I was also the Vice President from July through October, 2013
Cast a number of tie breakers and helped water down a few bills, like the Paid Leave Act
     Oversaw the executive agenda slots

I fully support a Yes or No vote with 60% required. Good idea.

Everybody cool? Okay. I would not describe any party as thriving; some have more zombies and call-up votes than others, that's all. Keep the dream alive.

Points is. . .

If we do not run anyone for President, I want to be considered for the nomination - that is, if there is not an actual leftist in the race. I'll have some fun with it, but you know I'll be serious. 0:) Cool

For real, folks: If the party actually wants someone to run as a protest candidate or what have you, and will get behind them, I'll give it some quick, serious thinking and make a decision within about two hours. If the party is not looking for someone, then I won't. Even if the odds of winning are long, I don't think it's a good idea not to run someone (sends a very bad signal because if you can't coalesce around one of your own, whoever it may be, it looks bad), but if there are other people in other parties that are attractive, then that's the call and we'll go with that.

If I were to run a campaign without party support it would be a waste of my time because I would be just amusing myself, and no one would understand it, or else it would be just me being a jerk. In other words, it wouldn't be serious.

I can confirm that I will run for Pacific Senate. I hope you will support me.

I will pursue an agenda that is left-of-center flexible and about which I will post in the coming days and weeks. I will also post about my history in defending the Pacific.

Thank you!

Lumine, you are to the right of me, but you are more flexible and certainly more clear-eyed than many of the people to the left of me. You will do the party well, IMO.

We should not become the right wing equivalent of the Liberal Party, of course.
