Yeah, fascists don't usually win free and fair elections or continue to allow democracy to exist after they are elected. Chavez and Maduro were both elected in free and fair elections and democracy hasn't gone the way of the dodo in Venezuela as of yet. (Though it might if the right-wing opposition forces Maduro out of power)

Maduro is not a particularly friendly fellow to civil liberties, and IIRC, the 2013 elections were a little shady.

It is true. Nixon tried to pass a health care act to the left of Obamacare. Nixon established the EPA, something that would never be accomplished today. He established an alliance with China. He ended the Vietnam War, a far bigger accomplishment than ending the Iraq wart. Nixon was more moderate in the Middle East.

And about Nixon's antisemitism and racism: that is very common with communists. That is the reason why liberalism is needed: it balances between bigoted conservatism and communism. That is the core of horseshoe theory.
