Apparently, the program of the future coalition want to abolish coal energy. I'm surprised FDP accept this insanity.

The deep pits are all gone now and what's left are a certain number of large lignite opencast mines, and those are extremely and increasingly controversial even without the emissions issues.

Regrettably not possible to provide lower level data for Chemnitz: stadtteil figures do exist and could be aggregated, but, alas and unusually, they do not include postal votes. I've also not bothered with thicker boundaries for local government areas as they are mostly very new and very artificial in Saxony and would only confuse matters.

Is that small patch of strong CDU support in the northeast of the state a largely Sorbian area?

That's right, yes.

Constituencies isn't the ideal translation - that should be used for e.g. the Wahlkreis - 'polling disticts' or 'precincts' would be better and avoid confusion.

Are we really back to hyperventilating about German federal polls outside of the runup to an election? Haven't people learned by now?

Also, German opinion polling outside election campaigns is just not very good. Odd patterns that don't quite line up are the norm.
