Saakashvili is an idiot.  Putin is taking advantage of this to do to Georgia what has was done to Serbia over Kosovo.  The ball is now in Putin's court, and unless he proves to also be an idiot, he'll be happy to just take advantage of the opportunity to welcome Abkahzia and South Ossetia into the Russian Federation,

When what has happened to Georgia as a result of poking the Russian bear was totally predictable, the response was completely stupid no matter how appropriate it was.
