(length of poll=1 week)
I suggest we keep most of the discussion on the subject in the proper thread...or at least try to.

The Georgian and South Ossetian civilian populations.

The leaders of all parties involved should be quickly assassinated though.

I guess I have to vote "Neither" then?

The Ossetian people. And thus no one who is, directly or indirectly, a party to the conflict (so, not the governments of South Ossetia, Georgia, Abkhazia, Russia, or the United States of America... I'm sure I'm forgetting to list some people.)

Can't 'support' either of them. Both governments have acted reprehensibly.

Couldn't have said it better (hence the signature). Though I admit that I'm less sympathetic to the Georgian government than the Georgian one.

When I personally say "No one". To me, that's population included. I consider that a population is always responsible of what is the regime by which it is led. No matter the regime, democracy, absolute monarchy, the worst dictatorship you can imagine, etc. That's maybe easy to say, hard to hear, but I strongly believe in it, I also think it is an optimistic point of view.

Then, I haven't the universal compassion, even if TV news would like to make born it in me. I don't know if that makes me a "bad guy", but I assume it. I tend to be stoic most of the time ("I just watch").

This said, even if I don't support the populations, if I consider they have some responsibilities in what they live, and if I don't have the universal compassion, I wish them the best.

Who I or anyone else on these message boards support is immaterial unless I grab a gun and fly over the Atlantic to help shoot.

Is anyone on here going to head over to Georgia and volunteer?

A question to those who wholeheartedly support Georgia: what should happen to South Ossetia?

The same thing that happened to Adjara. Make it part of Georgia but with some degree of autonomy. Of course its regional government must be fully democratic, unlike it is now.

I dare anyone to dispute that Mikheil Saakashvili and co. are complete idiots, regardless of his or her "affinity".

De facto taking on the Russians head-on? What was going through their heads?!?

This is all very good, but somehow I don't think it's really possible after the Georgians destroyed Tskhinvali.
Of course, if Russian citizens are excluded, then this might work...

I believe the South Ossetians broke the ceasefire, so the Georgian incursion was just retaliation. I really don't know what options the Georgians had. They had suffered numerous acts of war by Russia in the previous years and done nothing. It was only a matter of time anyway before Russia found an excuse to invade Georgia. The latter were in a lose-lose situation.

Ah, it's population deported to Central Asia, and denied even its ethnic name (the later Soviet Censi call the Adjars in Central Asia "Turks", those remaining behind "Georgians", when they are neither), with the empty shell of the former Autonomous Republic remaining in existence anyways.

Thanks for sharing.

(That empty shell was revived after independence, but crushed by Saakashvili in 2004, in a way Putin-watchers will instantly recognize.)

Cite for Georgia deporting or otherwise mistreating Adjarians?

Would you have preferred the grossly corrupt and non-democratic Russian puppet state that existed before Georgia took it back?
