I almost lost it when I saw this story earlier today. Remember when she was going to challenge Peter King?

And now King's supposed to challenge her!

Yeah, that would be awesome.

Responding to Ackerman comparing her to J.Lo, Caroline said today:

“I admire the journey J. Lo has traveled. I’ve been to a school in the Bronx near the house she grew up in and so I actually have a lot of admiration for her and she looks pretty good but in terms of public policy and as we spend our adults lives and I don’t think there is really much we have in common.”

Ok, maybe I'm falling into the trap but...was that really said?

As tasteless as this may sound (and I really don't mean it to be tasteless) but I think Ted's incident today basically guarantees Caroline this seat.

Really?  I had the opposite feeling.  He can wield less political influence (to reward & threaten) Paterson now.

ABC is right now reporting that the seizure was brought on by fatigue. If it was worse, I think Paterson would be under a lot of pressure to keep the "Kennedy legacy" going.

Why?  I find the whole idea that there should be at least one Kennedy in the Senate at all times ridiculous.

You're preaching to the choir. I'm not saying I agree with it.

Wow!

You know, deep down I wanted her there just to go off on her.  Tongue However, this is a great victory for those of us opposed to America's Monarch.

Suozzi for Senate!

Oh, I'm going to throw up. Seriously. I feel like I am going to be physically ill. Just like Grandpop, eh Caroline? Give me a break.

Ambassadorships like this are prestige positions, always have been. It's kind of perfect for her. She brings the glamor and the attention and makes the UK feel special, and career diplomats will do all the hard work like they always did. I think Bush appointed an Ambassador to France who didn't even speak French because he was a good ol' boy who gave enough money to his campaign.

As I said in another ambassador thread, I know that many these are appointments are based on friendships/thanks for political help. I'm just disgusted that it would be her and how we'll have to hear about Grandpop Joe serving in the position before (and was a complete disaster).

Good stuff. I wanted Suozzi over Gillibrand but she's fine. Certainly an improvement compared to Hillary and definitely better than people like Cuomo and Maloney. If Paterson picked Maloney, I would have been very disappointed. Plus, we're probably getting a House seat!

Based on...? Hillary was a terrific senator for NY and I am pretty sure Clinton and Gillibrand don't differ on all that much. Gillibrand is just conforming to her district right now.

Based on ideology...unless you have a convincing argument that proves she is only "conforming to her district right now."

As for replacing Gillibrand, the incumbent she beat (Sweeney) was scandal plagued, wasn't he?

I love that he's present but why the hell is Al D'Amato at the announcement (and basically right behind the podium)?

Anyway, this is a great day for New York and for the GOP. Let gun control nut McCarthy run a nasty primary challenge. I'll love it. And then who can forget picking up a House seat?

You're getting a bit ahead of yourself there, especially considering Obama won the seat.

It's likely that we'll get it.

Based on what? Like I said, Obama won the seat and the special election will be held during his "honeymoon".

All you have going for your side is that Obama won the seat which really doesn't mean too much. Admit it.

It's a Republican district with a Republican bench. Oh, and the Special will likely be sometime in March or April, I assume. I don't think Obama is going to be looking so pretty then.

There's currently only about a dozen or so Republicans in seats Obama won.

Good thing Obama won't be on the ballot.

It's a Republican district with a Republican bench.

Kind of like IL-14 or MS-01 right?[/quote]

LOL OMG U R RIGHT! EVERY RACE WILL BE LIKE THOSE FROM NOW ON!!!

Your simple problem is that you're an idiot.

I don't predict the future, BRTD. I don't know what will ruin him nor did I even say anything will "ruin" him. Honeymoons end.

Uh, how did I imply that? I said I'd like to see a nasty primary battle. That doesn't necessarily mean that I want that because I think we can win the seat as a result. It makes the possibility more likely though.

I'll stick with the usual, smart, correct answer and say that I don't know if we have a real chance at the Senate seat. Probably not but I don't forecast the political climate months from now, let alone two years.

That's different; the Democrats were the opposition party then.

Are you saying BRTD is being disingenuous? Oh, stop it, Al. You're so silly sometimes.

I'm not saying it will be like recent special elections.
