So... there's effective no scenario in which Trump is removed from office before the 20th?
There is, but Mitch McConnel has chosen to leave him in power

That's what I meant, McConnell (or, rather, the entire Republican caucus) has effectively eliminated any chance of him being removed from office.

But that's not McConnell. That's the rules.

If he wanted to, he could attempt to achieve unanimous consent to meet before the 19th.

Hawley and Cruz will never let that happen.

Tlaib is one of the best members of congress, she has foresight, interesting ideas and a great grasp of her district. I hope soon the neolibs will stop putting her in the same sentences as Omar.

The Senate should vote for Trump to have lifetime Secret Service protection in line with any ex-president. If anything, he needs it even more than most ex-presidents.

Terrible take

I don't want there to be any chance at all that Trump is assassinated after leaving office. His death, when it happens, ought to occur in obscurity, from natural causes.

He has forfeited those privileges and then some. When he dies, however that may be, he will still be viewed as a martyr by his insane remaining fans. And besides, who would really want to waste their time assassinating such an old, unhealthy, powerless, broke persona non grata?

You can tell how hard the NPR hosts are trying not to just call these people idiots.

Side note, I’ve loved how NPR has covered this. Strait up calling insurrection and lies insurrection and lies since Wednesday. Didn’t expect that from the totebagger set.

I watched CBS' 60 Minutes on Sunday-specifically, Lesley Stahl's interview of Nancy Pelosi, Scott Pelley's interview of Brad Raffensperger and Gabriel Sterling, and Jon Wortheim's interview of Angus King, and they were not shy from using the terms "insurrection", "lies", and "incitement" in describing what happened, and Trump's role in it. The media has been anti-Trump throughout his term, but have become even more so now after this.

The media is very pro Trump. Nonstop coverage that even Obama would give a kidney for.

Look at the Kardashians, they are vile people but are able to sell and get ahead of the competition simply by the media following their every move nonstop.

As I keep saying, if you want to know who the media doesn't care for, look at who they ignore.

Has there been any consideration to admitting DC before the trial to decrease the number of Republicans who would have to go out on a limb and convict?

Not that admitting states just for impeachment votes is a good precedent, but since DC statehood is a 100% lock this year anyway, might as well move it up on the calendar. After all, the Americans living in DC deserve a voice in this matter.

1. Admit DC as 25 states
2. Have quick elections in all 25 new states
3. Remove Trump from office without any Republican votes even though he already left
4. Profit!

So much talk about how “liberals hate socialists more than fascists”, not so much about how the reverse is also true for a certain obnoxious portion of the left.
I do love how there was this catchphrase among socialists and far leftist that goes “scratch a lib and a fascist bleeds”. Yet these past 4 years under the closest to a fascist we have had in office we have seen this segment of leftist like Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Chapo Trap House, and posters like Jfern and Big Abraham that spend there time only attacking mainstream democrats just to be a contrarian and in cases outright defend Trump

Some of us remember Obama's neoliberal warmongering.

Okay, but what mystifies people isn't why a hard leftist would be hostile to mainstream Democrats, it's why a hard leftist would be even more hostile to mainstream Democrats than to Trump and Trumpism, a position that only makes sense if you presuppose that 1. foreign policy is so overwhelmingly more important than domestic policy that a President can literally attempt to abolish representative democracy at home and still be preferable to a "normal" President whose foreign policy was worse than the aspiring autocrat's and 2. excessive use of hard power is the only kind of bad foreign policy. Normal people, including normal leftists, reject both of those premises.

When everyone is acting like Trump is worse than Hitler while Democrats aren't much better than Trump, what's the point of piling on with Trump. I'm more scared of Presidents that the media isn't so willing to stand up to.

The media did not stand up to Trump in the way you think. They gave him the Kardashian treatment, reporting on every tiny movement he made, and in 2016 gave him 24/7 coverage Obama could've only dreamed of.

The media forced Trump on us.

It’ll work, because most Republicans are anti-American morons.

It really doesn't matter what Castor says, he could go up there and start speaking Swahili. There's no way more than a handful of Republicans do the right thing.

This is such a tremendous gift for Senate Republicans. They can so easily say "The case was made" and vote to convict and then let the blowback die off between now and 2022. They won't, but they should.

The blowback wouldn't die off. We're dealing with a cult here.

He's an excellent speaker and a solid progressive, to the left of the administration but not Squad level either, sort of where Fetterman is. Definitely someone to watch.

I know virtually all of the focus is on PR and DC statehood, but Stacey Plaskett is reminding me that the US Virgin Islands also deserve representation, she's doing great up there. Too small for their own state though so I'm not sure how that could happen.

This is such a clown show.

"Given the allegations of anti-semitism among Trump supporters, my question is, has there ever been a more pro-Israel president than President Trump?"

Castor never actually answers the questions asked of him, but instead keeps returning to a specious allegation of fabricated evidence and angrily insisting that the entire case must therefore be thrown out.

Evangelical Christians who constantly praise Israel are often some of the most anti-semitic people in the country.

It's time to move on and get people the money they desperately need. Trump was never going to be convicted.

It's odd how quickly some people here switched from "we must hold Trump accountable, he is not above the law" to "I guess it is time to move on" in a matter of like two days.

There aren't enough votes to hold him accountable. There is nothing Democrats could bring to the table that would convince enough Republicans to vote to convict. Nothing in the world.

The longer this drags out, the worse it is for Democrats. Covid relief still hasn't been passed and Biden has an agenda to get to. Trump fatigue is real.

Why? Biden's agenda is popular, Trump can't market himself like before, he's already in fairly poor health, and frankly, most of his supporters are old and the electorate will likely be even less friendly towards him because of that. Unless Biden really screws up, Dems are favored against him.

I'm more worried about 2022, Hassan is looking very vulnerable.
