It's now been two months since I was warned about mass deaths in Nova schools since Youngkin signed a bill banning mask mandates.

I am so glad I do not have kids. I couldn't imagine my anger during covid if I did.

Mass deaths?

Healthy & non-obese kids are at an infinitely higher risk of getting leukemia or lymphoma than dying to Covid.

My point is those mass deaths were never gonna happen. It was all about control .

In that case, based & Orwell pilled. Although I do think that part of it also comes from plain old stupidity & the fact that most western generations post WW2 are p*****s, and not just a lust for control.

I recently went back to Bosnia for a few days. If you wear a mask anywhere outside a hospital, are fairly young and look healthy, people look at you like a clown lol.

Made me remember why I love my people(s), in spite of all the problems.

We need more of that here.

Jimmie was that you?

Not cool, way too direct. A snicker and side eye is the proper form.

One interesting change I've been seeing in the last week as mask mandates get repealed is the suggestion that masking is a necessary safeguard for immunocompromised/disabled people.

I'm not really sure what to make of it. On the one hand it is genuinely sad that for a lot of people in the US the threat of COVID-19 is still very present and grave. On the other the fatigue from the pandemic is extremely real and we all feel it (I know I do) and I do unfortunately find wearing a mask a kind of reminder that the pandemic has happened.

The obvious solution is just to let the immunocompromised wear masks, but even then there are cases were people just abuse those wearing masks in public which is just cruel.

One of my best friends is immunocompromised and he absolutely hates that argument. Says he doesn't need society to change forever for him. He wears a mask in high risk places and keeps it pushing.

COVID is endemic at this point, so we need to go back to 2019, in terms of public health measures, and no quarantining for asymptomatic, vaccinated individuals

Agreed. This thread should also be unstickied imo.

Let's see if we can last 6 months without a scary new variant making waves. It is the #3 cause of death in the US again.

Do we have a heart disease or cancer thread stickied?

Flew post mandate for the first time yesterday.

I'd say maybe a quarter of people are still masking. Mostly women, no real correlation with age or race.

Seasonal viruses tend to do this. If you're scared get another booster and wear your mask.

COVID is not seasonal. Also, I can't get another booster, because fourth shots haven't been authorized for people my age (21.)

You're 21 and worried about COVID? lol

Ukraine is a far more pertinent issue these days than COVID, and the COVID thread is still stickied. Either both should be or neither.

I’m doing it out of concern for my grandmother.

Do you guys have people in your lives you wish to keep around as long as possible?

Your mentality in doing your best to avoid getting others sick is one that many more should have, even if doesn't mean transmitting a fatal or otherwise severe illness.

If there's anything the past 2.5 years has taught me, it's that so many people are incredibly ignorant and/or inconsiderate. It seems to be a very prevalent mindset in this country. It's like the people that go to work sick (when they actually have sick days) and get others around them sick. That is a very common mindset in this country. But it's not just that. Many people seem to have no issue going out in public when they're sick and getting others sick in the process.

Ukraine is a far more pertinent issue these days than COVID, and the COVID thread is still stickied. Either both should be or neither.

I see 514 pages of the war stickied in International General Discussion.

The Ukraine thread on this forum which was 30 something pages was unstickied, but the international COVID thread is still stickied as well. I had COVID two weeks ago, no big deal, just a flu. Time to move on.

It doesn't make much sense to have a separate thread for Ukraine in this forum.

I don't want the flu either. Hell, I don't even want a cold. I don't like getting sick. I thought that was sort of common sense.

Okay, so wear your mask forever. No one is stopping you. Leave the rest of us alone.

That isn't what I'm saying. I'm saying there is a time and a place for masks. People like you seem to think it's the most egregious violation of human rights ever.

True, those places are called medical facilities. I have no issue wearing a mask at the doctor for the rest of my life. Anywhere else? Passe and close to pointless.

If they're just offering it and people want it I don't see why that's a problem. Are they forcing students to learn online?

It shouldn't be offered at all. Online learning is an easy out for kids with social anxiety.

President Biden told CBS News's Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes tonight that the COVID pandemic is "over", just over two and a half years after the WHO declared it a pandemic.

Ted Johnson at Deadline:
Quote
President Joe Biden said in a 60 Minutes interview on Sunday that the Covid pandemic “is over,” one of a series of newsworthy items he said during a sit down with Scott Pelley.

“The pandemic is over,” Biden said in a portion of the segment at the Detroit Auto Show last week. “We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lotta work on it …but the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think this is a perfect example of it.”

Public health agencies still treat Covid as health emergencies, but the head of the World Health Organization was optimistic in his remarks last week. He said that “we’re not there yet, but the end is in sight.”

There's gonna be so many resist lib and 'MD' accounts screeching about this on Twitter.

Imagine the coping from compucomp (about this and the recent developments in Ukraine) if he was still posting on here...

Between the insane Chinese lockdowns, Russia's recent losses, and this announcement, I sure wish the CCP hadn't stopped paying him. His responses would be very interesting.

This is genuinely surprising

Democrats are scared of their own shadow and a lot of Republicans don't want to credit Biden.

This is not likely to go over well, but they say it's only two weeks.

Two weeks to slow the spread.

This is the paper for UW in Seattle. I'd be surprised if they didn't say pregnant people.

After over three years, the covid megathread is no longer pinned to the top.  It's the end of an era.

But I am still obsessed with covid!!!

It's NEEDS to be stickied!!!

jimmie, it's time to let COVID go and move on.

Looks like we’ll need to sticky this thread again. Cases and hospitalizations are rising.

You're not serious are you?
