Minnesota just got the most interesting gubernatorial primary in the country.

Wow.

Most interesting primary, either party and any office.

Personally, I want Walz to win only because I don’t want him to lose his congressional seat for nothing.

^^^^Exactly. It seems like an incredibly petty move by her after she lost the AG endorsement to Pelikan.

This entire fiasco is good reason for (much) earlier filing deadlines in Minnesota.

If we had Maine-style RCV in this race I’d put Murphy first, Walz second and not rank Swanson.

Lori Swanson is a massive HP for jumping in the race at the last minute and scrambling the race, even though a Democrat will probably win it regardless. But Mark Begich is an amazing FF for jumping in the race last minute and scrambling the race, even though him doing so raises the chance of a Republican win drastically. Smiley
Bill Walker is already a conservative and deeply unpopular, so it doesn't matter. If anyone should drop out of that race, it's the incumbent Governor.

Not that it's at all relevant to the Minnesota thread, but it's been clear for some time that Walker is in a whole lot of trouble. Begich jumping in is probably the best way to ensure that a Republican does not become Governor of Alaska -- assuming, of course, Walker drops out to allow Begich to take on whatever Palin clone the AKGOP puts up.

Lori Swanson is a union-buster.

Also Tim Walz and Erin Murphy are both former union leaders.

I think Walz will win this. He has a natural base, and has popular support. While hes more socially moderate, hes also economically left, giving him a connection to the rurals and cities. Murphy has the city vote, and some suburban support. Swanson is left with very little, no cities due to Murphy, noz woman vote due to Murphy, and no rural due to Walz. Actually now that I think about it, without Murphy, Swanson would likely win this, so thanks Murphy!

Also, while browsing, I found this quiz on who you match with for governor:

I got Walz.

I adore both Walz and Murphy, and downright hate Swanson. I’d be elated with either of them.

Lori Swanson just got shafted by our state media outlets. Probably enough for Walz to win, if he wasn't leading already.

Still praying that Jeff Johnson pulls it out on the Republican side because I honestly can't bring myself to vote for Pawlenty in any situation. He's scum, even for a politician.
Assuming Pawlenty wins the primary, who are you supporting in the Gov race? Blank ballot?

She busts their union, then makes them work for her campaign. Un. Real.

Swanson's been on a downward trajectory for the entire duration of her campaign. At this point she may come in third.
From your lips to god’s ears.

Swanson's also started airing attack ads on Walz and Swanson-aligned PACs are sending out attack mailers. Clearly Walz is in the lead and they’re trying to boost Murphy’s numbers and hope for a split to allow Swanson to sneak in.

The Smith appointment surprised a bunch of people. I guess Swanson didn’t stand up to vetting.

I wonder if she turned Dayton off in personal interactions, and he just realized there was something "off" about her. Guess we should be thankful he trusted his gut feeling if that was the case.
Dayton seems like a pretty solid dude, honestly.
