I adore both Walz and Murphy, and downright hate Swanson. I’d be elated with either of them.

I got Tim Walz, who I'm supporting. I preferred Swanson up until the report about her using her office workers for campaign purposes, which reeks of corruption.

Lori Swanson just got shafted by our state media outlets. Probably enough for Walz to win, if he wasn't leading already.

Still praying that Jeff Johnson pulls it out on the Republican side because I honestly can't bring myself to vote for Pawlenty in any situation. He's scum, even for a politician.

I got Walz on the quiz myself. I've supported him since he entered, so that's nice.

Assuming Pawlenty wins the primary, who are you supporting in the Gov race? Blank ballot?

I'll try to get Matt Dean, Jeff Backer, or Phillip Parrish (in that order) to register as a write in candidate. If that doesn't work, which I suspect it won't, I'll most likely vote for Chris Wright.

EDIT: Just took the quiz, got Johnson as expected

Is that the Libertarian candidate?

Where do you live? I'm in 62A (very competitive DFL primary, the only race that matters here)

He's the Legal Marijuana Now Party guy. I doubt Libertarians will get on the ballot, although if they somehow do I could vote Libertarian. Also, 55A. Our fun race is the US House race.

Dayton just endorsed Murphy. Could be a game changer?

Dayton is popular, but he doesn't really have a lot of clout. And most Walz voters seem to be behind him pretty solid. It might move a few low info voters from Swanson to Murphy though, which is good.

I'm very curious about the county map.

Obviously Walz will dominate in his district, and Murphy should win the Twin Cities (although not as hugely, Walz has much support here too), the suburbs and much of outstate are kind of a mystery. Pre-Nolan scandal I would've expected Swanson to take the 8th, now that might actually tank her there since they're more aware and the activists there are calling on Nolan to resign. Walz could take the 8th too. I don't know about the suburban districts honestly.

FWIW here's the only time Swanson faced a primary challenge, in 2006:

some context is needed. The initial DFL candidate withdrew before the primary after some scandals, including one discovery that he had hired a PI firm to tail the incumbent AG Mike Hatch (who was running for Governor), after he was endorsed at the convention. So three candidates jumped in, State Senator Steve Kelly (green), who had ran for Governor and withdrew after losing the endorsement, former Congressman Bill Luther (blue) and Swanson (red). At the time Swanson had never held political office but was generally seen as the right hand woman of Hatch and was second in command at the AG's office, but she wasn't well known at all.

This makes it look like Swanson won a landslide, but she actually only beat Kelly by four points, showing by just how concentrated the DFL vote is in those counties. Her strength in the rural areas was mostly attributed to her Scandinavian name (yes seriously). She has no connection to those areas, she lives in Eagan (affluent middle ring suburb in Dakota County, I actually work there) and had never ran for office before. But of course Nolan's current district was her strongest, maybe she saw Nolan as a way to "double down" on her strength.

I could see her doing stronger in rural areas though due to more low info voters and maybe not as much negative media coverage. Minnesota often shows a noticeable pattern with western Minnesota counties in North Dakota media markets, might see that here too. But those areas are also a great fit for Walz.

I voted for Kelly by the way.

Heh. Remember how everyone was speculating why she didn't initially run for Governor, or why Dayton didn't appoint her to the Senate? I think we have the answer Tongue Team Walz! I'm enjoying this pun way too much tbh
