I will never understand why there are 5 seats and only two JCP candidates. How could progressives reconquer the Senate if we don't even have enough candidates to have a majority ??

Because you can't win five seats.

If you don't try, sure that you can't.

No, it has to do with how the preference math works. If we run too many candidates than we risk splitting votes to the point of not having any viable candidates.

The STV system is done precisely to avoid this threat by chosing the 5 candidates that are most representative of the electorate.

With three major parties, each party is going to at least get one of their candidates in. It's inevitable.

That means we could get 3 people elected if we try.

True, though if you fail you could endanger Marokai or Fritz's re-election bid. I think they are about the two best people the JCP could have in the Senate at this juncture.

I wouldn't endanger anybody if the second preferences of people who voted for me are cast for Marokai or Fritz.

I'm just saying that the will of active members shows that the DA candidates are clearly most wanted in the Senate..

No. DA is advantaged on this sort of poll because it's a moderate party, and so it will get JCP's preferences after the JCP candidates and RPP preferences after RPP candidate. That doesn't mean DA is especially beloved or that its senators are especially good. They just benefit to the voting system.

This voting system is one of the fairest existing. If we will have only one DA senator, it would reflect real DA support.

that its senators are especially good.

Then just dump our Senators since they're incompetents. It's simple.

Please, don't start again to confuse theorical comments and personal attacks... I don't know DA senators and I have no idea whether they are good or not ( except for one of them Wink ). Try to realize that you are becoming angry for nothing.

I don't know DA senators and I have no idea whether they are good or not

Then the best thing to do is to refrain from commenting until you have evidence or sufficient knowledge to criticize or praise them.

I was just doing a comment of the reason why DA seems to do so well in this poll. I can't understand why you always consider all unfavorable ( or considered so ) comment that has minimally to do with you as a terrible offense. Stop it before looking totally ridiculous.

Stop thinking I was offended, I wasn't. My above statement had nothing malicious, offensive or so forth nor did I take anything in this thread as a personal offense.

I just think that one should wait to make comments about people if they don't know much about said people. That's all. Simple, no?

Also, I guess I have to give you a little semantic lessson :

Here are two statements :
1 : A fact doesn't mean that DA senators are especially good.
2 : DA senators aren't especially good.

Contrary to what you seem thinking, these two statements are not equivalent, and the statement 1 could be true even if the DA senators are especially good.

Understood ?

It was one of the firsts I took part to as an Atlasian citizens and I remembered the PS/MB "discussion" very well. So, I browsed the old pages of the board and found it. Tongue
