Katie Phang on MSNBC, who's at the courthouse, just said it could be up to 3 hours before the details are available.

The state charges can be moved to federal court if he can show that the conduct in the indictment relates to his Presidential duties. It's a high bar and I'm not predicting it will happen.

That seems like a high bar indeed, and, to me at least, it clearly does not relate to his presidential duties (trying to steal an election to remain president not being an official presidential duty), but we'll see; I could be wrong.

Yes. A much much stronger argument would be this is related to his role as a political candidate, not as the Commander in Chief.

Also, at least one event reported to be investigated by the special grand jury occurred after Trump was out of office - his Sept 2021 letter asking the SOS to decertify the 2020 result.

Let’s say Trump is found guilty for both the Georgia and at least one of the federal cases. Does he serve his sentence in Georgia or a federal prison?

They could solve both problems by putting him in the Atlanta federal prison.  It's had quite a few notable inmates in the past (Al Capone, Eugene Debs, and Carlo Ponzi, among others).

https://nypost.com/2023/08/26/judge-in-trump-jan-6-case-is-scion-of-marxists/

Quote
The judge assigned to [Trump’s Jan 6th case] is the scion of a family of revolutionary Marxists in her native Jamaica.

Judge Tanya S. Chutkan … is the granddaughter of Frank Hill, a Jamaican communist revolutionary, who along with his brother Ken were briefly jailed by the island’s British governor during World War II over suspicions of “subversive activities.”

Hill is the father of Noelle Hill, Judge Chutkan’s mother, public records show.

Frank, along with his brother Ken Hill, and fellow comrades Richard Hart and Arthur Henry, were expelled from the People’s National Party of Jamaica for espousing communist views, according to local Jamaican media.

So what?

Trump's attorneys are aiming for fast prosecutions in Georgia, while their criminal organization head boss delays his own trial as long as possible

Huh? His lawyers moved to sever the case from Chesebro who wants a speedy trial. Powell has also asked for one.

This belongs in the Georgia thread, btw.  But his point is that Trump's lawyers want Chesebro etc. but not Trump to have a speedy trial there, because it will reveal much of the prosecution's evidence before Trump goes to trial.

Trump implies Biden knew he was about to be indicated.

Quote
It has just been reported that aides to TRUMP prosecutor, Deranged Jack Smith, met with high officials at the White House just prior to these political SleazeBags Indicating me OVER NOTHING. If this is so, which it is, that means that Biden and his Fascist Thugs knew and APPROVED of this Country dividing Form of Election Interference, despite their insisting that they “knew nothing.” It’s all a BIG LIE, just like Russia, Russia, Russia, & not knowing about son’s business dealings. DISMISS CASE!

You'd think someone with Trump's education would have a better grasp of spelling.

Does this date mean that jury selection begins on March 4, or that jury selection should be completed by March 4 to actually begin opening statements on that day?

Jury selection will start on March 4.

Proud Boys member Joe Biggs has been sentenced to 17 years in prison by federal Judge Kelly (a Trump appointee) for his part in the J6 events.  The DOJ had asked for 27-33 years.

I've seen some discussion on legal Twitter that Trump's latest motion is another own goal by his lawyers.  They're arguing that Judge Chutkan has, in connection with other cases, suggested that Trump should be prosecuted and imprisoned, and therefore she's biased against him and should recuse herself.  But there's a big problem with this argument: Chutkan has never mentioned Trump in this connection!  She agreed with a defendant's argument at a sentencing hearing that those who had instigated and encouraged the attack had not been charged, while noting that this did not merit a lower sentence for that defendant, but she didn't identify anyone specifically.  By claiming that she was referring to Trump, his lawyers are implicitly admitting that he instigated the January 6 violence.

I think the decision is sound at least as far as it concerns communications between members of Congress.  That seems to fall squarely under Speech & Debate, and I can't see any other court overturning it.  The part about a member's communications with Executive Branch officials is less clear; I can see arguments for both sides.

Here is Trump's reaction and hopefully he won't be able to say **** like this soon.

Quote
Biden Prosecutor, Deranged Jack Smith, has asked the Court to limit 45th President, and leading Republican Nominee (by more than 50 points, & beating Dems!) DONALD J. TRUMP’S, PUBLIC STATEMENTS. So, I’m campaigning for President against an incompetent person who has WEAPONIZED the DOJ & FBI to go after his Political Opponent, & I am not allowed to COMMENT? They Leak, Lie, & Sue, & they won’t allow me to SPEAK? How else would I explain that Jack Smith is DERANGED, or Crooked Joe is INCOMPETENT?

Over/under on how long it takes one of the judges (either Chutkan or the Georgia judge) to jail Trump for violating the terms of his release on bond?

I've seen a lot of to-do, especially on the right wing internet today, about one of the defendants getting a pretty minor charge that they are alleging is because he was a secret fed? Anyone know what this is about?

It was Ray Epps, who the MAGA nuts have been convinced was an FBI plant due to a conspiracy theory invented by Tucker Carlson; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Epps_(military_veteran) for a good writeup.
