I'd say yes. Politically, their governor is cool but they have a presumably gerrymandered and far-right Republican legislature. Charlotte was considered a big up and coming area about 10-15 years ago but a lot of the luster has worn off there.

Since when was Charlotte ever "trendy"?
I remember hearing a lot about it years ago. From wikipedia:

Ehh, fast growth isn't necessarily a measure of trendiness--Charlotte is not a very 'hip' place.

"Nascar" and "hip" usually don't go together very well.
