I'd say yes. Politically, their governor is cool but they have a presumably gerrymandered and far-right Republican legislature. Charlotte was considered a big up and coming area about 10-15 years ago but a lot of the luster has worn off there.

No, it doesn't really get as talked up or praised or mentioned nearly as much as states like Texas, New York, California, Florida, Hawai'i, etc.

I can understand being critical of its politics, but I don't really view this question as a political one necessarily.

It's impossible for this to not be Florida.

The mountains are gorgeous, the beaches are nice, not sure what else you could want. Charlotte is less trendy now than it used to be (it's just a very generic city, lot of banking) but the Triangle is a nice place to live.

Overrated in terms of its competitiveness as a swing state? Yes.

However, North Carolina seems like a decent state overall (politics aside). Asheville and much of Western NC especially seem pretty cool, and I could imagine myself living there.

I don't quite get why their population keeps steadily increasing, but as long as Florida exists and people keep flocking there they will never not be the answer for "most overrated."

California is the most overrated state in America followed by Texas, whose own residents never shut up about how great it is when it’s really not that great.

North Carolina is not that bad. Charlotte is a pretty bland though perfectly fine city, but Asheville and the whole western Appalachian area is pretty nice. Best mountains in the eastern US.

It's impossible for this to not be Florida.

It can’t be Florida because most people recognize how bad it is now.

What's that? It's hard to hear you over the massive sucking sound coming from your state.

Hey, at least I know my state sucks (though I love it anyway). Californians and Texans can never seem to admit their flaws.

It seems to be a somewhat above average state with a few nice cities like Asheville.

Sure we can. I do it all the time. But at the end of the day, I think California basically lives up to the hype it sets for itself as the most beautiful and culturally interesting state in the country.

Lol, every time I try to discuss California's flaws on this site Democrats get mad at me for criticizing their policies. (Not directed at you, just a general observation.)

I remember hearing a lot about it years ago. From wikipedia:

Quote
Between 2004 and 2014, Charlotte was ranked as the country's fastest-growing metro area, with 888,000 new residents.[9] Based on U.S. Census data from 2005 to 2015, Charlotte tops the U.S. in millennial population growth.[

The other way around, when Kentucky-bred horses come in to California and bag the biggest purses at Santa Anita.

Ehh, fast growth isn't necessarily a measure of trendiness--Charlotte is not a very 'hip' place.

"Nascar" and "hip" usually don't go together very well.

North Carolina is nice.  "Most overrated" probably belongs to either New York or California, and I say that as someone who enjoys both of those states.

Although it no longer seems to be overrated among many Americans, Florida is still the most overrated state by Europeans. Many view it as a nice family holiday destination and pleasant place to spend the winter in when they’re older, rather than a swampy cultural desert.

Florida gets well over 100M domestic visitors a year, which is more than any other state.  The 14.5M international visitors to Florida during 2018 is comparable to several European countries (Netherlands, 16M; Ireland, 10M; Switzerland, 11M; Croatia, 14M) even though Florida has no international borders or passport-free travel.

The numbers don't lie.  Florida is lit.

From a pop culture stand point, probably New York

Either way, no
