I often say that Republican Christians use the Bible for toilet paper but now I'm not so sure they even use it for that, because you'd think they might occasionally catch a glimpse of a word or two in the process.

And anyone who wants to accuse me of being classless for attacking Cawthorn in this way, perhaps you're right, but Cawthorn is one of many opportunists using a religion he doesn't even respect as a political prop to empower himself and elevate himself. The second he shuts the hell up about his phony-baloney Christian values then I will extend the same courtesy, but until that happens, comments like mine are fair game when applied to his ilk.

Your thoughts on Fuzzy’s marriage has nothing to do with this thread.

Since my post was also deleted, I'd like to state for the record that I never said a word about Fuzzy's marriage. I was talking about Madison Cawthorn, a public figure, in a thread about Madison Cawthorn's marriage.

TBF, most American Evangelicals and other New Testament types are petty liberal on divorce, at least vis-a-vis the traditional Catholic/Mainline teachings on the issue.

If they're going to be liberal on this issue then, in my opinion, they need to be liberal on all other social issues and not just the self-serving ones. If Jesus Christ can be mistaken on divorce then the Apostle Paul and the other authors of the epistles can be mistaken on homosexuality.

Well obviously if you're going to deviate from "all Scripture, all the time," you're going to do it when it benefits you, not when it only benefits the people you're grossed out by.

Sure, but that's why Cawthorn's divorce is a political issue. If he's claiming conservative Christian values, then his violation of those values is of public concern, I think.
