Internationally recognized anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is running for Congress as an independent against Iraq War supporter, and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. I think this is the most interesting congressional race this election.

In order to get on the ballot in California as an independent, she has to collect a massive number of signatures from her district (over 10 thousand) by August 8. She already has over 3,000 more signatures than is required, but it is necessary to get much more than the minimum, because some always get thrown out for various reasons.

She has also been endorsed by Ralph Nader, Matt Gonzalez, Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party and the Peace & Freedom Party. Her campaign website also looks quite good: http://www.cindyforcongress.org/

I remember reading an article somewhere about the Republicans celebrating their success in the 2003 Mayor's race because they won a whole 7% of the vote or so.

Yes, in fact in that election the Green Party's candidate Matt Gonzalez (and now Nader's VP candidate), beat the Republican in the first round. He then won around 47% of the vote in the second round against Democrat Gavin Newsom. The Democratic Party was so scared of Gonzalez winning that they even brought in Bill Clinton to campaign for Newsom.

Great news, Cindy Sheehan is now officially on the ballot for the 2008 election. Hopefully the Pelosi puppet will be defeated for her shameless collaboration with Bush.
