The Democrats nominate the evil robots to implement their vision of the irresistible march of progress upon the hopelessly backward American people. The Republicans respond by raising their old heroes and ancestors from the dead as zombies who will eat the brains of liberals (and maybe everyone else too)

The robots attract many based on their promise to create many jobs in industry toward the manufacture and infrastructure needed to complete their totalitarian digital revolution. But many Americans reject this as unnatural oppression, resenting the robots as arrogant micro-managers and so choose the zombies, who are considered both easier to hide from and more ecologically friendly.  A popular vote win for the zombies, but as the EV is a tie, the election is taken up by the House of Representatives, who believe it is better that the puny human mind be upgraded to the status of cyborg slave than to be breakfast for the undead.
