It's such a stupid argument when you look at the sheer number of healthcare workers who have died because of Covid-19 exposure, who were otherwise healthy.

Only 512 healthcare workers have died of COVID-19.

Only 512? That's a really large number of people to die on the job!

In early April, in the middle of Germany's lockdown, I had an appointment with a doctor. At that opportunity, she told me that all her colleagues she knew working at hospitals had already made their last wills due to the COVID crisis.

Trump's press briefing seemed to give the impression that he almost completely flip-flopped on COVID. The pandemic is now serious, but up until that Chris Wallace interview it totally wasn't. Question is how long he'll be able to keep this up until he reverts back to his usual self... a week maybe? He was rather restrained today, but in the long run he was never able to control his impulses sufficiently.

Joe Biden on Wednesday excoriated President Donald Trump for promoting on Twitter the dubious claims of Dr. Stella Immanuel, the Houston doctor who’s claimed to have effectively treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine, who the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee called a “crazy woman.”

In a virtual event with the UnidosUS Action Fund, a nonprofit advocating for Latino political power, Biden was asked to respond to Trump having repeatedly pushed for public schools to reopen this fall without putting into place effective measures to keep teachers and students safe.

Biden replied that Trump should “stop tweeting and start doing something about it, damn it” and “stop talking about this crazy woman he talked about last night, who's an absolute disgrace.”

Biden’s dig appeared to be in reference to Immanuel, whom Trump on Tuesday night called “very impressive” and an “important voice.”

Trump retweeted this, and I don't know if it's to play to his narrative that Europe isn't doing better than us, or if he's praising this crowd.

Well, "the crowd" would - at least in part - be Trumpists in the U.S., because the whole anti-lockdown movement here is heavily intersecting with the anti-immigration folk and conspiracy theorists. Maybe Trump is trying to so: Nobody is wearing a mask and practices social distancing in Europe, so nobody should feel compelled to do so in America either. What he'd omit is that the participants in yesterday's Berlin protests are largely seen as fringe lunatics by the rest of our society (or at least the majority of it).

Then how come among people I know personally, it's always the more left-wing ones who are anti-lockdown?

I dunno. I don't know the people you know.

A possible explanation is that political phenomena often seem to exist in reverse in Europe as opposed to America. For instance, a prominent AfD politican was recently investigated by the police here for having defaced a Karl Marx statue in the wake of the BLM protests.
