Opinion of Greta Thunberg

Personal observation: While a couple of posters here have showed themselves annoyed over the supposed hype this person receives, nobody seems to be concerned about the at least equally excessive vitriol this girl receives particularly from the far-right which leads to me to the conclusion that Thunberg is not so much "overhyped" as she is for some reasons a polarizing figure. But maybe you're consuming the wrong media, are on the wong Facebook pages and have the wrong Facebook contacts for that. Only a couple of days ago I have read something along the lines of: "This retarded child - yes, retarded because Asperger is a disability, and judging by the looks of her she may suffer from the Down snydrome too - is totally overhyped by the media." More than anything else, I'm actually concerned that some day someone may attempt to assassinate her since she's as much a foil to project your hope onto as she's befome a foil to project your hatred onto. Someone who as of now I have decided to keep as a Facebook friend because she used to be a lot less dumber ten years ago before the rise of the AfD (note: NOT the one who orignated the aforementioned quote) is a particular offender of the latter.

You only make a little kid the centerpiece of your movement when you've run out of arguments.

So, in your opinion, did Malala Yousafzai win the Nobel peace prize because the women's rights movement in the Muslim world had "run out of arguments"?

Trump appears to be mocking Thunberg on Twitter.

I'm a bit conflicted over this, actually. On one hand, this tweet obviously helps making Thunberg and her cause better known to the American public. On the other hand, it also increases the likelihood that some crackpot is gonna stab or shoot her in the future.

Speaking of which, there's a "closed" German-language anti-Thunberg group on Facebook titled "Fridays for Hubraum" ("Fridays for engine displacement/cylinder capacity") which consists of almost 366,000 members right now.

A couple of investigative journalists managed to infiltrate that group and have released screenshots of some of the discussion threads there. Turns out assassination (and other violent fantasies) are pretty commonplace there:

To translate some posts from there:

"How much does a hit job cost anyway?"
Response 1: "We could pool together from this group, then we're gonna have enough for the entire parliament."
Response 2: "You're getting a grenade in the car for 5.000 around here. To hang her at her pigtails for 10.000. To make it look like a suicide for 30.000-40.000."

"Give that asshole child a strong punch somewhere."

"Could someone shoot that piece of sh**t please or hire the IS for it?"

Those who have released the screenshots have announced that there's "more to come" and that also members of the AfD belong to that Facebook group.
