2022 was supposed to be our's, too. Mexico has obvious problems but just wait until they play the "Bring the World Cup to a poor, troubled part of the world that has never hosted the tournament!" card. 2026 is far from certain. Plus, I'd rather experience a World Cup on home soil when I'm 34, not 38.  Tongue

Mexico's hosted the World Cup, twice.

I have a cousin in Qatar.

That is literally the only thing about the place that comes to mind.

To be fair, there have been a lot of countries with serious issues that have hosted World Cups in the past. 1934 and 1978 were both held under the auspices of out-and-out dictatorships, and 1970 and 1986 were organized by the PRI regime in Mexico. Then again, none of those places had large-scale slavery.

2022 is far enough off that there would still be time to move it just about anywhere, but yes, obviously the United States would be an excellent location.

I'd say that crowd noise significantly negatively affected the 2010 experience.

Colombia was stripped of the 1986 World Cup eight full years after receiving it, so there is precedent.
