Antifa are basically radical fringe-left thugs.  The real thing to note here is that most on the mainstream left want nothing to do with these whackos.  What I like is how Antifa tweets things like "Those on the left who call us patriots, step the f*** away" (accompanied by a picture of an American flag burning) even as they rail against the very concept of freedom of speech.  Nutjobs with no sense of irony are always fun. 

I wonder how many of those rushing to their defense are aware that the group's ideological and strategic bible refers to the first amendment as "a secondary concern" and argues that concepts such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press should be selectively applied depending upon a group or individual's political beliefs and more specifically whether or not said beliefs align with those of Antifa.  In other words, even if you're a diehard Berniecrat (or hell, even think Sanders was too conservative) who believes we need to become a truly Socialist economy with largely nationalized industries...but publicly state that you oppose political violence against those you disagree with, Antifa's ideology would dictate that you be denied freedom of speech and attacked just as violently as someone like Richard Spencer. 

If these guys weren't just incompetent clowns who are largely all talk and no action types, I'd say it was only a matter of time until they ended up killing someone.

Why don't antifa ever attack or disrupt liberal speakers or rallies then?

They do? A lot of victims of antifa violence have been other counter protesters. Look at what happened to the old woman with the American flag in Boston - she was attending the counter-protest and they attacked her for having a flag.

The liberal professor at Evergreen College that had the audacity to show up for work on People of Color Day was attacked by them too.

antifa is illiberal.  No liberal would defend them.  Progressives might, as they don't care as much about freedom as liberals do.  I miss the left being liberal.

but it's not a choice between the two.  It's totally cool to hate nazis AND antifa, in fact, every one should.  Especially liberals, as both groups are very illiberal.  I'm not saying they are the same, it doesn't matter.  They both stand for things that suck and they both are full of people that like to initiate violence.  If you initiate violence you should go to jail, no matter who you do violence to.  If you initiate violence repeatedly you should stay in jail.  I don't care what color your jacket is.

Nazis are certainly more cartoonish in their evilness.  They certainly scare normals more when the press talk about them (hence the attention).  Nazis just make a better, more romantic villain.  Same with the Klan, to a lesser and more localized extent.  Commies make good villains too, they just score a 6.5 on the "evil" scale whereas Nazis are the only group that scores above a 9.


Tigger being a 1, Darth Vader is a 8.1, the Klan are a 7.9, the Night King is a 5.9 and Cora is a 3.2.

And people wearing the Antifa uniform have initiated violence against non-Nazis too.


But again, I don't care what stupid club people belong to.  If you initiate violence (or threaten it in attempt to silence someone), you're wrong.  There is a lot of that going around, not everybody on the left doing it is Antifa and there is plenty of it on both sides.

But we can keep dancing around, saying "some people wearing the Antifa uniform aren't violent thugs trying to shut down the other side (and NAZIS!) and this one guy I met in Toledo seemed like a nice guy" if you want.
