not surprising that you would adore a fellow republican.

He beat George Allen; isn't that enough to love him?

Webb is one of those special rare people with no redeeming qualities.

Except that he apparently has some talent as a writer.

He was a decorated military man.  I don't know what kind of Sec. of the Navy he was.  Anyone have some insight into that?

He was only in office for a little while, and, according to Reagan, when he left,

It was over budget cuts regarding the 600 ship Navy strategic plan. Webb was against the cuts.

Good.  More Democrats need to be like that.

Why? Do you support the military-industrial complex?

Yes.

I believe in the concept of a large, strong military.

The last time we reduced our military significantly, we ended up in WWII.  I'd like to try and avoid that.

We're not heading towards WWII type conditions so we don't need one. Right now the big powers are consolidating and not really plotting against each other with the exception of india/pakistan which is different.

Maybe, but I'm just too paranoid to let our guard down.

Paranoia is a bad thing.

After 9/11, a little paranoia when it comes to cutting the military is a good thing.

Half of the reason 9/11 even happened was because we intervened in Iraq and Afghanistan in the '80s-early '90s.

I wish we had stayed out of those countries, but we didn't, and we're stuck with our current position, which dictates a large military.

How exactly does it do that? We're not going to be attacked.

Like I said, I'm slightly paranoid.  We were attacked once; it may happen again.

We'll only keep being attacked if we keep dicking around in the region and supporting the zionist settler entity.

You know my position on our support of the "Zionist settler entity."

Do you have anything to add to the thread besides play-by-play commentary?

Thank you.

I'd applaud you, but I don't think there's a smiley for that.
