I occasionally ask my daughter to read through these boards to make sure I'm not coming across as an "old person" (I just really want to impress you youngins) and her only comment after skimming this one tonight is "disaster thread."

What can I say? Again. Some of us are going to hell over this thread.

Breakdown from the Voice of Reason

Thanks for this. Axelrod knows Oz's team is high-fiving tonight, and Fetterman's isn't. That's the relevant part of the tweet, absent the DNC window dressing.

I mean, it's kind of gross to say "sufficiently recovered" in terms of a stroke. What even is that baseline? Some people "recover" quickly, others take a lot of time. Doesn't mean they're any less fit to do a job. This is why the entire topic of the whole thing has been gross. If Fetterman was so "cognitively impaired", then how could he read and understand the questions so fast and understand it? The idea that not being able to verbalize your thoughts properly means you're brain damaged is really just gross.

But again - debates like these are about "optics." It's like speaking to someone with a severe stutter in real life. Is it somewhat uncomfortable? Sure. Is it less "comfortable" then speaking with someone who doesn't have one? Sure. But does it make that person any less fit to do their job or "cognitively" there? Not at all.

The problem for Oz is that he could've came off like a different person, but Oz has his own issues that he just reinforced once again.

So at the end of the day, they made clear where they stand on the issues. So it's whether you're with someone who may have issues speaking and verbalizing their thoughts a bit, but is working on it - or someone who you think seems like a scam artist and is rather untrustworthy. I think PA'ians will prefer the former, but who knows. As Trump showed, and as the press has made clear, all they really care about is optics.

Basically getting people like Oz, Walker, Lake, and Trump up there is just masturbatory. They’re basically new porn.

You guys watched a debate? That’s crazy.

Well, back to eating 64 slices of American cheese.

8 recommendations for an old off the cuff Homer meme? This place is cultured and why I have been here for 13 years.

I don’t know why people take PredictIt seriously as a metric. These people had Hillary as like the 5th most likely person to be the 2020 nominee for a good long while.

It’s like the most “culturally autistic” prognostication tool that we have.

Lmao another awkward silence brain freeze

I thought you were leaving?

This is the only board where moderators are telling people to leave

There are boards that make people leave. Maybe you would be more comfortable on those.

Well that didn't make my choice any easier like I hoped it would...

It shouldn’t.

Another shot out of left field: what do you think of Biden’s ADHD?

Republicans think everyone has 100% equal opportunity.. despite the fact... you can take economics completely out of the picture and see that is not true.

There are medical and biological factors that hinder people.  But of course blue avatars think people choose to he that way
. Lolol

I never said anything about Fetterman's health.  Neither candidate offered me any substantial policy positions that I hoped would swing my vote one way or the other.  That's it.

This is the appropriate response.

Oz also endorsing Rick Scott's ill-advised plan on social security and medicare was also quite something.

Raise taxes on poor people and revive W’s social security plan?

Thing with Fetterman is..  he can still talk and it would be easy to make minor accommodations for him on the Senate floor during debate that would not be permanent either !

So no.. it's not the same as a blind pilot

Or an autistic doing air traffic controller

Or someone who can't speak English doing customer service

Heh. Explains why my stepdad failed his ATC certification. He had ADHD but in this instance I’m guessing that being an autist would affect you the same way as having a related yet less divergent status. That is, not being able prioritize in the way you are expected to.

Pathetic the way some are trying so hard to push this poor guy across the finish line when clearly he isn't well.

Please stop the disingenuous concern schtick. It's an insult.

That's half the GOP line now. Half of them are going after Giselle and saying terrible things and the other half are trying this very disingenuous "We care about Fetterman, he needs to go rest and get better... and just drop out and call it a day"

It's very transparent to say the least!

What i think it is . that.. some are embarrassed and attacked Fetterman's impediments for political reasons and now they want to show sympathy.

Some of them probably do have sympathy.

IRL.. when I lived in ultra conservative utah.. it was rare for anyone to bother me about my impediment.

This thread was probably the worst ableism I ever seen.

Anyone who wont apologize for this probably has a serious mental disability. How’s that for Ableism?

All I know about this race is that if Fetterman loses, it's not because he ran a bad campaign.

And it looks like we may have overreacted last night at how much the debate would hurt Fetterman, because if anything he might have indeed gotten a sympathy boost to balance out the bad performance. It's definitely possible for Team Oz to overplay this and end up looking like jackasses.

I guess that having a stroke in your early fifties really is the American experience. More people can relate to that than being a TV doctor.

“Looks like” jackasses?
