During the Cold War, Finland had plenty of self-described "peace activists" who denounced the U.S. but called Soviet weapons "missiles of peace". Mysteriously, many of their organisations found themselves in financial trouble soon after 1991.

Here is a British example of that type: Fiona Edwards is a national officer of the UK NGO "Stop the War" and describes herself as a "socialist, anti-racist, feminist, anti-imperialist". So of course she sides with Putin.

I'm all for a genuine "Stop The War Coalition". What we actually have in reality, though, is much more a "Victory To The Other Side Coalition". Seriously, the number of self-described "anti-imperialists" who seem to think that Russian and Chinese imperialism don't actually exist is pretty infuriating.
I have seen people justifying it claiming they Warsaw Pact had their own revolution nothing said. Power to the people like threatening a king to adicate at gunpoint and threatening to kill his supports if he didnt as such in Romanian

I don't think Putin is this dumb. If he attacked Sweden and/or Finland, it would be a completely different ball game. IMO, they should already be in NATO, but I doubt it would matter. At that point, even die-hard Putin appeasers in Europe would be able to see his endgame. Norway, even if they're not attacked, I bet would swiftly respond. The Nordic countries are too close culturally to stand by when the others are invaded I believe. This would then likely pull in Poland and then the rest of Europe, and then probably the US into war, which would absolutely decimate Russia militarily.
wouldnt this trigger a coup in moscow?

Not necessarily completely relevant to the international dimension, but Trump once again opened his mouth on the situation in Ukraine:

"Trump praises Putin but calls invasion ‘appalling’

By Colby Itkowitz9:13 p.m.

Former president Donald Trump again lauded Russian President Vladimir Putin as “smart,” telling a crowd of his most ardent supporters that the problem is not with Putin, but that U.S. leaders “are dumb.”

Most of Trump’s comments about the Russian invasion of Ukraine during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando on Saturday were focused on himself and his grievances; he and Putin understood each other, Trump said, so this wouldn’t be happening if he were still president.

He mildly criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine without denigrating Putin directly, saying it’s “appalling and it’s an outrage and an atrocity that should never have been allowed to occur.” It would never have happened “if our election was not rigged,” he said — a reference to Trump’s false assertion that a 2020 election win was stolen from him.

The former president called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “brave man,” then quickly qualified his affinity for Zelensky, who was the central figure in the 2019 impeachment charges against Trump. At the time, Zelensky said he hadn’t felt pressured during a phone call in which Trump conditioned U.S. military aid on Ukraine digging up dirt on Joe Biden and his family.

Before his CPAC remarks, Trump told reporters that the war in Ukraine could “spread throughout the world.”

“This could be a world war,” he said. “Something has to be done.”

Asked what specifically should be done, Trump said there were things “that would end it very quickly,” but he wasn’t going to talk about them to the news media. "

Wall Street Journal just posted an interesting and very long article which I can only partially quote, so please go out and buy a subscription or do a free trial...

"As His Invasion of Ukraine Sputters, Putin Finds Himself Isolated and Out of Touch

The Russian leader is isolated from his inner circle and peddling an alternative version of history to suit his needs

With the world moving against him, economic sanctions piling up and a so-far unsuccessful military campaign, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday issued the ultimate deterrent threat.

Mr. Putin put his country’s nuclear forces on high alert, a warning to the countries lining up to help Ukraine fend off its Russian attackers. The announcement was a window into Mr. Putin’s increasing isolation and anger. His behavior is making his inner circle appear visibly uncomfortable.

Mr. Putin issued his warning Sunday sitting at one end of a very long table. Seated far down the table were two top lieutenants who typically exude confidence. As Mr. Putin ordered them to put the country’s nuclear weapons on high alert, Sergei Shoigu —his longtime defense minister and stalwart ally—lowered his head in a sign of consent.

The Russian leader appears to have gravely miscalculated the economic and political costs as well as the on-the-ground challenges of an attack on Ukraine. His overreach threatens to have far-reaching consequences for both his global standing and the stability of his nation.

He singled out another close adviser in a televised security council meeting seen by millions of Russians. Just before the attack on Ukraine, Mr. Putin took his spy chief, Sergei Naryshkin, to task for his failure to “speak directly.” Mr. Naryshkin appeared uncomfortable and stumbled over his words as the Kremlin leader pressed him to express his views on whether the breakaway eastern Ukraine regions of Donetsk and Luhansk should be recognized as independent.

....

But he built toward his biggest gamble ever during the isolation of Covid-19. Mr. Putin retreated to his residence outside Moscow and imposed stringent quarantine requirements on anyone wanting to see him.

It was during that period that he began building his current case for attacking Ukraine. In a 7,000-word essay written last summer and published on the Kremlin’s website, Mr. Putin outlined what he said was evidence that Ukraine is an artificially-created country infiltrated by foreign forces and overrun by nationalists who threaten Russia’s security.

Mr. Putin’s essay soon became so core to the Kremlin’s narrative on Ukraine that the Defense Ministry added it to the curriculum studied by all Russian service members, including the 190,000 troops estimated to have massed near Ukraine’s borders ahead of Thursday’s invasion
.

...."

Emerging market currencies down 2%. RUB crashed below 110.  Russian banks raise mortgage rates by 4% in anticipation of rising credit issues and inflation.  So far the shock is about the same or a bit less than the late 2014 shock but this is just the beginning.
Only 2014?! That’s awful, no?

The markets are not fully open. FX trade as I said is very very light. The ruble is not one of the main traded pairs anyways. Equity markets fell as much as 40% on Friday in Moscow. There will be more to come.

Could this become a legitimate humanitarian crisis?

Russia has enough farmland to feed its people and enough oil to keep the lights on. It's not going to be a humanitarian crisis, but it is going to be a early 2010s Greece speedrun within a week.
can’t csto and China prop them up?

Would they bother?

Russia is useful to China mostly as a big ole oil field and a military that menaces and distracts the west. A ruined Russia means cheaper gas and North Korea proves you don’t need much of an economy to do the later.
Russia isn’t North Korea though

Ret. Gen. Wesley Clark just told CNN that there'll inevitably be a point where Biden will reconsider America's "no military intervention" position, which makes sense: Russia has generally been using significantly less artillery than would typically accompany their operations, but heavy artillery barrages will result in thousands upon thousands of civilian casualties, so if Putin becomes desperate enough & gets to that point, then the U.S. will likely be forced to start weighing intervention.
Biden need to be 25th if he even thinks about it

Because this is making me so angry here are some of the non-graphic images. If this doesn't get "the West" to get involved beyond dumping weapons into Ukraine, nothing will:

"for my native Kharkiv, these bitches must answer separately"

"Kharkiv after the racist attack."

RUSSIA HAS NUKES! What part of that dont u understand!
