Controversy as leftwing parties are saying they will reject a CHEGA Ddeputy Speaker in the Parliamentary Leadership:

Arm wrestling in Parliament. Ventura does not give up a vice president of Chega in Parliament

According to the Parliamentary rules, the 4 most voted parties have the right to nominate deputy speakers in Parliament. As CHEGA, after last Sunday's election, is the 3rd largest party, they have the right to nominate someone. But, the left parties, PS, BE and PCP, are not willing, as of now, to elect a CHEGA deputy speaker. Ventura is already playing the "victim card" and is saying that no one would understand a block to the election of a CHEGA MP. In a statement after his audience with President Marcelo, Ventura added that he hopes that the reports are only "dust controversies", and that his party will not abdicate from the post. The election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speakers is conducted by secret ballot.

CDS to elect a new leader during the weekend of 2 and 3 April:

Quote
National Council of the CDS-PP approves realization of a Congress on April 2nd and 3rd

CDS National Council met last night and approved the date to elect a new leader, after the resignation of Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos on election night. The party will elect a new leader on the weekend of 2 and 3 April, while the venue is still to be decided. After the meeting, Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos said that it was "internal friendly fire" that killed his leadership and that the party needs to start appreciate it self or the electorate will never appreciate CDS. MEP Nuno Melo is expected to announce his candidacy for the leadership, and could be the sole candidate for the leadership. Any new leader has a monumental task ahead, as in almost 50 years of Portuguese Democracy, no party that was wiped out from Parliament ever returned again.
what was the closet to returning?
