As a leftist, I’m glad Carter is gone cause he’s a douche, makes the whole movement looks bad. Saying his defeat is the death of the “insurgent left” is way premature and simplified, also the woman who beat him is a progressive. It also seems like some more moderate delegates lost to more left candidates, but I can’t quite tell cause Heretick also had some corruption charges which likely played into it

In the beginning of the night she was ahead by about 20-30 points, but I was wrong in thinking it would narrow much more

Why can't they just agree on some debates, what's going on here?

I don’t know why Youngkin is so eager to debate at an HBCU, he’d be tarred and feathered

Could the afganistan fiasco hurt mcaulife in NOVA?

NOVA is AN EXTREMELY pro-interventionist area of the country.

excerpt from Sarah Rankin's article in the AP yesterday:

Democrat Terry McAuliffe asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Virginia Republicans that seeks to remove him from the ballot in this year’s closely watched race for governor over an alleged paperwork error.

In a filing Friday evening, attorneys for the former governor now running for a second term against GOP nominee Glenn Youngkin said the suit was based on a “legal lie” and would effectively invalidate hundreds of thousands of votes cast in the Democratic primary.

McAuliffe argued in his filing that nothing in Virginia code requires a candidate to sign the declaration of candidacy.

Further, the filing said: “Even if there were a technical defect with the declaration of candidacy — and there is not — it would provide no basis for removing McAuliffe’s name from the general election ballot and preventing Virginia’s voters from choosing him as their next Governor. The declaration of candidacy is a prerequisite for placement on the ballot in the primary election, not the general election, and the primary election has already concluded.”

“There is no basis for the Republican Party to now — almost three months later — contest the results of another party’s primary,” his filing said.

Several state election law experts told the AP on Thursday, when the suit was filed in Richmond Circuit Court, that they would be surprised if it succeeds. Online court records do not show that a hearing has been set.

Reminds me when republicans tried to throw James Smith off the ballot for briefly seeking the libertarian nomination

The fact that billionaires are wasting money on frivolous races for governor and flying into space is proof that we do need to increase taxes on the ultra rich.

Poll after poll shows CRT is not popular.

Parents want their kids learning the 3 Rs and basic history

Polls show Obamacare is much less popular then the affordable care act.

People aren’t as informed at we like to think

So I just got off from phonebanking for McAuliffe, and most of the people I contacted were Youngkin supporters. Probably doesn't mean much in terms of who's going to win, but it does worry me. One of them even cussed me out.

So is this your first time working in politics then? When I worked for one I had someone call and tell me that Obama paid fauci with taxpayer money to go to Wuhan and created coronavirus…

Oh look, one of the candidates is engaging in a big lie

He didn’t say that he stuffed the ballots he’s literally pointing to actions Kemp did as Secretary of State (who is in charge of election issues) took actions that disenfranchised people. Which is what he did.

Please educate yourself on what happened in Georgia.

This is why so many blue avatars don’t post here anymore.

The excusing away of bad things dems do is just too stinky to handle

There is ZERO evidence that buffet-lover Abrams would have won if not for kemp actions

1) Youre gross for using erroneous personal details to attack someone.

2) The issue isn’t whether she would’ve won or lost, the issue is that Brian Kemp/The State of Georgia took steps that directly lead to Minority voters in Georgia having less access to being able to vote then white voters.

Educate yourself on something other then FOX and OAN

Also dear god has “truther” ever not been used to describe someone delusional? 9/11 truther, Vaccine Truther, etc. it’s literally the definition

Quote
truther
/ˈtruːθə/
nounINFORMAL•US
noun: truther; plural noun: truthers
a person who doubts the generally accepted account of an event, believing that an official conspiracy exists to conceal the true explanation; a conspiracy theorist.
"she denied evolution, AIDS/HIV, and was a 9/11 truther"

I remember a lot of democratic anxiety over the race around this time in 2017. Looking at polls from this time four years ago they were also very close and leaning looks up the guy Gillespie.

Wait, Trump actually can't be going to VA right? Is he really going to sabotage Youngkin's campaign?

Even the "talk" of Trump coming reinserts himself into this campaign.

The most absurd fact is it seems they plan on having it in Arlington. As in, the city that last voted Republican in 1980 and 4 out of 5 people voted against him. That’ll go over like a lead balloon

Buses, torches, and wet button-up shirts aside, maybe my Virginia peeps (or regular peeps) can help me out here:

Was the former governor the "good enough"-candidate for the Dems? Or was he truly the candidate thought to be the best for for the Dems here?

Not a Virginian but honestly TMac won largely on name recognition. Looking at the other candidates you had Jennifer McClellan, a state senator with policies similar to TMac, Foy a state delegate with a bit of fame from flipping a seat in 2017, then Fairfax, a rapist, and Carter, a nutjob. Had Spanberger or Herring run it would be a different story but all the other candidates were either lost causes or just simply unknown

This race has taught me what a short-term memory the average voter really does have. The idea that Republicans are the champions of Education after spending the last 30 years mocking the idea that teachers deserve a raise or that Public Schools deserve more funding. It's just laughable that they are about to make this a winning issue and I'm not sure if it's reflective of how fickle voters are or how truly abysmal the Democratic party is at messaging.

The idea that favoring improvements to education requires favoring increased funding or increased pay for existing substandard teachers has been completely debunked by decades of research. Funding and outcomes are not correlated, let alone causal, but parental involvement and outcomes are.

In any case, a year of Zoom school showed many parents that the existing model of education has passed its usefulness.

You’re not wrong, but it’s not like republicans are championing much else besides parochial schools
