Kathleen Sebelius Speaks to Supporters

"I want to thank New Hampshire for showing up and showing such enthusiasm in our nominating process. Tonight, we came up short, but we still have a lead in delegates and a long fight for the nomination ahead of us! I want to congratulate Senator Clinton on her win tonight, and thank every volunteer and campaign worker for pouring your heart and soul into this race.

We can't grow weary and have to take this fight onward to Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, and Super Tuesday. I believe that our grassroots support can and will win this nomination. Together we can fight corruption in Washington, say no to politics as usual, and pave a new way forward. Thank you!"

Kathleen Sebelius Releases Statement on Russ Feingold

"Like the rest of the country, I'm saddened to learn about what happened to Russ Feingold, and I've already spoken to his family privately. Our loss of him is a true tragedy, and I hope the FBI can provide some answers to his family. While it would be easy to focus on the salacious details of this investigation, we should focus on Russ's life and accomplishments.

Russ Feingold was a true fighter for the people of Wisconsin, an outsider who didn't let Washington corrupt his ideals and goals. He spent his life serving the people of his state, working to achieve a fairer, more just country.

He will be missed by the people he represented, those inspired by his Presidential run, and most of all, his family. I pray his family is able to get some closure, and I ask that they receive the privacy to grieve in peace."

Kathleen Sebelius Runs Ad "Fair Trade"

"Politicians in Washington often insist that you're either pro-free trade with no restrictions or that you're a full-throated protectionist."

"I'm running for President to advocate a new way forward, and that includes in our trade policy."

"As President, I'll fight to ensure the American worker has a representative at the table when it comes to our trade deals. This starts with working with Mexico and Canada to renegotiate NAFTA, making sure the new deal is fair to both the American worker and the  environment."

"I'll work with our allies to strengthen the International Labor Organization and create international treaties to set an environmental standard for global trade."

"As your President, I'll work to make sure every worker gets a fair shake and we have a policy of fair trade."

Roll out free trade policy: As Governor, Kathleen Sebelius opened up avenues for trade for Kansan industries. Our policy should respect and promote free trade, but with renewed labor and environmental rules. Work internationally to set standards for environmental impact, strengthen the International Labor Organization's enforcement of labor rights like freedom of association, and renegotiate NAFTA to fit these standards.

January 9-15: Michigan

Fly to Detroit
Rally in Detroit with John Conyers
Speak at UAW HQ in Detroit, highlight plan to renegotiate NAFTA

"Look, I think politicians in Washington meant the best when they make trade deals like NAFTA, but good intentions aren't enough when it comes to public policy. The truth is, NAFTA needs to be reworked. Every stop I make in the Midwest, someone tells me the next President needs to come at trade from a different angle. That's why I rolled out my policy plan for free trade because American workers deserve a President who stands up for them at the negotiating table. We have to pave a new path forward on trade, and not pretend like everything is working."

Townhalls with union members in Dearborn, Livonia, and Canton
Speak at the University of Michigan with Barbara Lee
Roundtables with business leaders in Brighton and Fowlerville
Rally in Lansing
Speak at Michigan State University on Sebelius's plan for education
Townhalls in Charlotte and Marshall
Rally in Battle Creek

"Democrats can't take the Midwest for granted this year, just because we've done well in the past two Presidential elections doesn't mean we can take the region for granted. I grew up in Ohio and moved to Kansas, and have spent my time in public service trying to make the state better for every person in it. As your President, I won't forget about you, I won't just show up to win your vote, and I won't continue the Washington-style of big promises with no plan of action to deliver it. As your President, I will hold special interests accountable, modernize our governmental systems, and shine a light on how your tax dollars are being spent."

Speak at Western Michigan University
Rally in Grand Rapids
Rally in Lansing with Governor Jennifer Granholm
Rally with John Conyers and Barbara Lee in Detroit

Surrogate Schedule and GOTV:

While in Michigan, Kathleen Sebelius will be joined by Representative Barbara Lee, Representative John Conyers, and Governor Jennifer Granholm. Barbara Lee will spend her time speaking at universities, working to excite young people who don't usually turn out in the primaries, she will focus on Sebelius's status as an outsider and plan to make education affordable for everyone. On election day, she will coordinate with the Ann Arbor campaign team and knock on doors for Governor Sebelius, hoping to increase turnout there. John Conyers will spend his time campaigning in his home city of Detroit, speaking with voters across the city on Sebelius's plan for trade and her Midwestern roots. He will spearhead the Detroit GOTV effort, working to increase the turnout in the city. Jennifer Granholm will campaign on Sebelius's behalf in Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City, highlighting the executive experience a Governor will bring to the office of the President. As for Kathleen Sebelius herself, she will join Barbara Lee and John Conyers in Detroit for a rally and then work with Conyers in Detroit to get last-minute voters to the polls.

Kathleen Sebelius Speaks to Supporters in Detroit

Secretary Sebelius addresses the 65th World Health Assembly by United States Mission Geneva, on Flickr

"Michigan just sent a message loud and clear, we want a new path forward! I'm so humbled by your outpouring of support and so grateful to be able to share this victory with all of you. Our campaign has always been about all of you, it's been about holding Washington accountable and striving for a more perfect union.

I want to celebrate the fact that as of Michigan, we have gotten Senator Clinton to rethink her position on NAFTA, that's the impact that a grassroots movement has on our politics. I want to thank Senator Clinton, and congratulate her on running a strong campaign here in Michigan.

We're not done though, we still have a long race ahead of us, and I plan on continuing this fight for all of you. We're moving onward to Nevada, where I will need your help in fighting against the status quo, so please sign up for campaign updates and donate if you can.

Together, we're paving a new way forward!"

Kathleen Sebelius Nevada Schedule

Source

Roll out NEA endorsement:

"As the largest union in the United States, we take our members' thoughts and opinions seriously before deciding to endorse any candidate. However, this year we have seen overwhelming member support for one candidate in particular. We at the NEA are happy to endorse Governor Kathleen Sebelius for President of the United States. No candidate has such a comprehensive education plan, is as big of a champion for educators and students, or has the experience of properly funding education that Kathleen does."

January 16-19: Nevada

Fly to Reno
Rally in Reno with Senator Barbara Boxer
Roundtable with business leaders in Carson City, speaking with them on transitioning to a greener economy
Townhalls in Fallon and Hawthorne
Townhalls in Goldfield, Tonopah, and Amargosa Valley
Rally in Las Vegas with Governor Napolitano

"My friend and fellow Governor Kathleen knows what it takes to get work done. She's not interested in partisan fights, she just gets results. So when I see politicians in Washington playing political football with immigration, education, and healthcare, I know Kathleen is the one who can come in and fix it. As a fellow Governor, I can tell you that we know how to work with a legislature and balance a budget, we know how to provide results. Kathleen is not going to get lost in this week's political food fight or the next, she knows what's important, representing the American people."

GOTV in Las Vegas

Kathleen Sebelius will be joined in Nevada by Governors Napolitano, Richardson, and Schweitzer, along with Senator Barbara Boxer. Governor Schweitzer will spend his time talking with rural voters in the northern portion of the state, his townhalls with ranchers being the main focus. The Governor will engage with voters who usually don't come out to caucus for Democrats, urging them to change their affiliation for a candidate with both moderate and outsider bona fides, highlighting her support of the Second Amendment. On Caucus day, Governor Schweitzer will spend his time door knocking in Reno, getting last minute caucusgoers to their site. Senator Barbara Boxer will join the campaign primarily in Reno, where she will coordinate with Governor Sebelius on strategy. The Senator will capitalize on her heightened name recognition from being from the neighboring state and will speak to voters about Kathleen's commitment to fighting for individual rights. Governor Janet Napolitano had already spearheaded much of the Nevada operation and will continue to do so up until caucus day. She will spend her entire time in the state in Clark county, holding rallies in Henderson, Paradise, and Las Vegas, speaking with voters on Sebelius's bipartisan approach to politics and plan to work with John McCain on immigration reform. The Governor will coordinate with volunteers and staff to get students, suburban voters, and Latino voters out to support Kathleen. Governor Bill Richardson will join Napolitano with events in Vegas and will spend caucus day speaking to potential supporters. As for Sebelius herself, she will join the Governors for a headlining rally in the morning before getting to work door knocking, sign-waving, and phonebanking to get Nevada caucusgoers to their assigned caucus site. Included in all campaign literature is the location of the caucus site alongside an explainer of what to expect, the campaign believes the information alongside outreach to new supporters and Nevada being the first Western state to vote will all work to the campaign's advantage.

Kathleen Sebelius Runs Ad "Outsider" Before Nevada

"As a lifelong resident of the Midwest and a Governor, I knew I'd be in this race against the entire Washington establishment who had already chosen their pick and were looking for a coronation."

"Then we shocked the country by winning Iowa, and the race changed. Our movement is no longer being counted out."

"It's now popular to renegotiate NAFTA, to be bipartisan, and the establishment is running scared."

"This movement is about electing a President with the right kind of experience, one who knows what it takes to balance a budget, one with a record of kept promises, one who has a plan to address issues Americans care about, like education."

teacher by Sergio, on Flickr

"This race isn't about me, it's about creating a Washington that we can be proud of, a system accountable to only the people it represents."

"If you agree with this message, then this campaign is for all of you."

"Together, we can pave a new way forward."

Kathleen Sebelius Speaks to Supporters

"We may not have won here in Nevada tonight, but we still ran a competitive race! Everyone here should be proud of participating in this contest and know that we aren't done yet. We still have a delegate lead and a competitive race ahead of us, but I can't do it without your help.

Without your support, our message will get drowned out by big-dollar donors. Go to my website to donate, sign up for volunteering, or to keep updated with messages from the campaign trail. Together, we will win not only the nomination but the White House as well!

Thank you!"

January 20-26th: South Carolina

Fly to Columbia
Rally in Columbia with Representative Clyburn

“In South Carolina, we choose the President. I am voting for Kathleen Sebelius and South Carolina should vote for Kathleen Sebelius. Kathleen has gotten to know our state over the course of this campaign, has earned the endorsement of Representative Barbara Lee, John Lewis, and the NAACP, she has listened to us when we bring our concerns to her, and she meets the moment with a plan to make the lives of all Americans better. It’s clear that there’s a real hunger for an outsider this year, and Kathleen Sebelius has the perfect balance of executive experience, outsider credentials, and an ability to build coalitions with legislators to enact her plans. When you go out to the polls, keep all of this in mind. I’ve known who I was voting for a long time, and I am confident she’s the best choice for South Carolina and The United States.”

Townhalls in Newberry and Laurens
Rally in Spartanburg with Senator John Edwards
Rally in Rock Hill
Roundtables in Chester and Winnsboro
Rally in Columbia with Representative Lewis
Townhalls in Camden and Bishopville
Rally in Florence
Townhalls in Lake City and Sumter
Townhalls in Manning and St George
Rally in North Charleston
Townhalls in Charleston suburbs
Rally in Charleston with Representative Lee
GOTV in Charleston

South Carolina isn’t viewed as a must-win by the Sebelius campaign, but they believe it will be competitive and will coordinate a surrogate schedule alongside the candidate visits in the state. Rep Barbara Lee, Rep Jim Clyburn (also the chair of the SC arm of the Sebelius campaign), and Senator John Edwards will all be joining the Governor in South Carolina. Jim Clyburn will hold rallies in Columbia and Sumter alongside smaller events across his district, coordinating the GOTV efforts in Columbia, with turnout there viewed as key to keeping the state competitive. John Edwards will campaign on the Carolina border, with rallies in Rock Hill, Spartanburg, and Greenville, where he will tout Sebelius’s ability to get Congress to work rather than being beholden to special interests. Barbara Lee will spend the majority of her time in Charleston where she will work to convince voters that supported her over Clinton to fully convert to Governor Sebelius. As for Kathleen, she will spend election day in Charleston, door knocking and phone banking to increase turnout in the state, coordinating with local NAACP chapters, Barbara Lee, and campaign staff.

Kathleen Sebelius Florida Campaign Schedule

January 27th - 29th: Florida

Fly to Jacksonville
Rally in Jacksonville

“We have an election this year that has quickly become the year of the outsider, and our answer to Ron Paul and Donald Trump can’t be an avatar of the status quo, no, we need a leader from outside of the Washington establishment. Let’s make one thing clear, there is no ‘safe choice’ this election, this isn’t a race to take for granted. If you want to build upon any of the progress of the last 16 years, then we must nominate someone with a record of building coalitions of Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans. I’m the only candidate with that record. I’m not from the establishment, and I don’t have a list of powerful donors and friends in Washington, what I do have is a movement of grassroots support. Florida, I need your help. We need to expand our delegate lead and show that we’re competitive everywhere. Don’t just vote, grab a friend, knock on doors, make some calls, and make a plan to vote together. That’s how we change Washington and end the insider culture that has taken over our politics.”

Townhalls in Gainesville and Ocala, hosted by the NEA and NAACP respectively
Small business roundtable in Spring Hill
Joint rally with Betty and Kathy Castor in Tampa

"I know education, I've been an educator much longer than I've been in politics. Kathleen Sebelius has the unique ability to address the concerns of both students and teachers, and the plans to back it up. She's got the kind of experience we need from our President and an ability to unite all Americans, not just Democrats. We can change this race in Florida, and we do it by voting for Kathleen!"

Townhall in Lakeland hosted by the NAACP and in Kissimmee hosted by the NEA
Rally in Orlando, kick-off GOTV efforts on primary day

The Sebelius campaign believes Florida is ripe for an upset, and focuses its efforts on the northern half of the state, believing turnout there is key to victory. Bolstered by the endorsements of Senator Betty Castor, her daughter Representative Kathy Castor, and Representative Kendrick Meek. The Florida surrogates will be joined by neighboring Representative Sanford Bishop and local chapters of the NEA and NAACP. Representative Sanford Bishop will cross over from Georgia, leading GOTV efforts in Tallahassee. He will highlight Sebelius’s outsider status and overall appeal to independents, saying that Democrats need to nominate someone who can win Florida in November. Senator Betty Castor was an early endorser of Sebelius and has held events on her behalf and chaired her campaign efforts in Florida. The Senator has highlighted Sebelius’s education plan heavily, while also mentioning her commitment to protecting Social Security, her bipartisan appeal, and her plan to modernize Washington. The Senator will hold campaign rallies in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee, and will work on election day to GOTV with her daughter in Tampa. Kathy Castor will hold events across her district, joining her mother for a rally in Tampa, and headlining her own in St. Petersburg. Kathy will highlight Sebelius’s commitment to lowering healthcare costs for Americans, including her plan for negotiating costs for prescription drugs. Representative Kendrick Meek will spearhead the Miami/Southern Florida arm of the campaign, working with the local chapters of the NAACP and NEA to get out the vote amongst members of both groups. He will hold events across Southern Florida, primary in Miami-Dade where he will spend primary day campaigning after voting himself. Sebelius herself with GOTV in Orlando, hoping to capitalize on her appeal with college students by holding events at the University of Central Florida throughout the day.

Kathleen Sebelius Runs Ad "Change" Before Florida Primary

"Washington politicians love to run on the status quo and package it as change and progress."

"This year, the American people have made it clear that this won't work anymore."

"We can't play it safe and nominate a Washington insider if we want to go up against the status quo."

"Kathleen Sebelius grew up in the Midwest, and has spent her entire time in elected office working to represent the people of Kansas over special interests."

"She is more interested in fighting to keep your drug costs down than she is in wheeling and dealing in backroom endorsement deals."

"As your President, Kathleen will work to make college affordable for every American, root out corruption in Washington, and bring our government programs into the 21st century."

"A vote for Kathleen is a vote for change in Washington."

"I'm Kathleen Sebelius and I approve this message."

Kathleen Sebelius Super Tuesday Schedule

January 30 - January 31st: Illinois

Fly to Chicago
Rally in Chicago with Senator Dick Durbin

“I’ve spent a large part of my time in Congress working on passing comprehensive immigration reform, but partisanship has long stood in the way. With this election, we have a chance to nominate a leader who will bring us out of this era of hyperpartisanship, and into one of building bridges with the other side. Kathleen Sebelius is the kind of outside leadership Washington needs. She’s going up against the status quo to create a better future, a more accountable government, and a common-sense approach to the issues facing our country. I’ll level with you, I’m worried. November is shaping up to be tough, and we have Ron Paul on one side and Donald Trump on the other, while we Democrats are hand-wringing over whether to vote for the familiar name or take a chance on the outsider, these two are left free to run on change. Let me tell you, if Democrats vote to continue the status quo, we will lose in November and any progress we’ve made will be overturned. We have to work together to nominate Kathleen, and work together to elect her in November!”

Rally in Peoria
Rally in Springfield on renegotiating NAFTA

“You know we have real grassroots support when Hillary Clinton is saying we have to negotiate NAFTA. That’s how you know we’ve got something here. But, we’re up against some powerful interests who want to keep the status quo intact. I don’t think the status quo is an option for many Americans, I don’t believe Democrats can rest on our past accomplishments, we have to offer real solutions and plans for the American people. It’s why I’ve released my policy plans online, and why I’ve joined Americans for townhalls around the country because the American people deserve to be heard by their President. When I talk to people, I don’t hear about the wedge issues partisans in Washington talk about, I hear about how people are worried about their job security, about how to pay for their kids to go to college, and a pervasive feeling that Washington politicians don’t care about people like them. Many of these people need change, and if we decide to offer them the same old talking points, they’ll find their change elsewhere. As your nominee, I will offer the kind of change America needs, not more of the same.”

February 1st: Missouri

Cross over into Missouri
Joint rally with Governor Claire McCaskill in St. Louis

“I’m so happy to be introducing my friend, the next President of the United States, Kathleen Sebelius! Kathleen has run one hell of a campaign if you ask me. She shocked the Washington establishment by winning Iowa and has kept every state competitive, even ones that commentators didn’t believe she had a chance in. She’s done all of this without the machine of support that Senator Clinton has behind her. Kathleen needs our help on Super Tuesday, Missouri needs to send a message to Washington that we have our candidate, someone who cares about the issues impacting all of us. A candidate who is committed to keeping abortion safe, legal, and rare, a candidate who respects responsible gun owners rather than laughing at their concerns. Kathleen has run a carbon neutral campaign and knows how to work with elected officials and business leaders to create good-paying green jobs without raising energy prices on hard-working American families.”

Townhall in St. Louis suburbs with educators

February 2-4th: California

Fly to San Francisco
Rally in San Francisco with Mayor Gavin Newsom

“When my friend Barbara Lee dropped out, I knew I had to follow her lead in endorsing Kathleen for President. Kathleen has fought for individual rights her entire time in public office, whether it’s when she stood up to insurance companies as Insurance Commissioner of Kansas or pushed for anti-discrimination laws as Governor, she is on the side of Americans, not special interests. Right now, America needs a President who will do that as well, so please don’t forget to vote for Kathleen on Super Tuesday!

Joint rally in Oakland with Representative Barbara Lee
Speak with students at the University of Berkeley
Joint rally in Sacramento with Senator Barbara Boxer
Townhall in Roseville

February 5th: Kansas

GOTV in Topeka
Participate in Caucus

GOTV Strategy:

The Sebelius Campaign knows how much is at risk on the so-called “Super-Duper Tuesday,” with around half of the delegates being decided after today. Her campaign and surrogates will coordinate hoping to re-take the delegate lead by winning caucuses everywhere, the Midwest primaries, and holding the Clinton margins close in the Southwest and Northeast, even banking on some surprise victories there.

California: The largest contest will be decided today, and the Sebelius campaign believes they can win the state due to her plans for education, generally progressive social views, and outsider status. Representative Barbara Lee is directly involved in the GOTV efforts in the state, helping Sebelius build upon her own base of support with African-Americans, liberals, and college students in the state. Barbara Lee will run GOTV operations out of Oakland, also holding events in Berkeley. Senator Barbara Boxer will join the effort to nominate Sebelius in the Bay Area, holding events in Northern California highlighting Sebelius’s green campaign, proven leadership, and platform of change. On primary day, the Senator will join Mayor Gavin Newsom in GOTV in San Francisco, hoping to run up the score in the city. Finally, Representative Xavier Becerra will lead the GOTV in Los Angeles, being the most prominent Sebelius surrogate in Southern California. He will work to turn out his base of support, reaching out to voters who usually don’t turn out in primaries.

Arizona: Governor Janet Napolitano was one of the first prominent endorsers of Sebelius’s campaign, and has worked to run the Arizona arm of her campaign. The Governor will work to rebuild her coalition in the state of suburban voters, Native Americans, and Hispanic voters. She will highlight Sebelius’s commitment to keeping the government out of the Second Amendment and a woman’s right to choose, but also her plan for greater accountability. On Super Tuesday, she will vote in Phoenix and work with volunteers there to maximize turnout in the city.

Nex Mexico: Governor Bill Richardson will also work to increase turnout in his state, hoping the Southwest alongside the Midwest will turn the tide of the primary. With events in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, the Governor will highlight Sebelius’s support of the second amendment, as even Democrats in New Mexico are opposed to laws restricting it. The Governor hopes to boost turnout among Hispanic voters and college students throughout the state.

Massachusetts: This is the state in New England where the Sebelius campaign believes an upset is most likely, with both Governor Deval Patrick and Senator John Kerry having endorsed Sebelius. Senator John Kerry will hold townhalls and rallies across the Western half of the state, with marquee events in Pittsfield, Springfield, and Worcester. Governor Deval Patrick will primarily work in Boston, holding several rallies in support of Sebelius on education and a balanced budget.

Georgia: While not expecting to win the state, the Sebelius campaign believes they can keep the margin closer than expected. Representative John Lewis will GOTV in Atlanta, highlighting Sebelius’s bipartisan support and moderate record. Lewis will coordinate with the NAACP to boost turnout in the state, hoping to increase Sebelius’s margins. Representative Sanford Bishop will campaign throughout his district, focusing most of his efforts in rural areas where he will highlight her plan for increased infrastructure spending for rural America.

Finally, Governors Bill Ritter, Brad Henry, and Phil Bredesen, alongside Senator Chris Dodd will campaign in their home states on Sebelius’s behalf. These surrogates will be focusing on the Governor’s plan to tackle special interests in Washington, alongside her calls for campaign finance reform.

"Kansas, we had a big win tonight! I'm so honored and overwhelmed by the support we've received tonight. As the results come in, it looks like our movement is more motivated than ever before. We scored victories from Alaska to Massachusetts, showing the political commentators that our grassroots movement is more than just a regional strength, it's nationwide.

In order to win against the Washington establishment and special interests, we've got a long fight ahead of us. But, it's a worthy fight. It's one that leads to rooting out corruption in Washington, it leads to affordable education for all, for extended tax credits for small business, and true accountability for the American people.

I didn't get into this race because it would be easy. I knew we would be up against the political class in Washington, up against the special interests with a stake in maintaining the status quo. But tonight we showed them that we're ready for real change in this country! I intend to fight this battle to the finish, and I am so grateful for your support!"

Kathleen Sebelius Releases Statement, Sends Out Email to Supporters

In a press conference, Kathleen Sebelius urges her supporters to vote for Tammy Baldwin, alongside tapping into her extensive email list to urge donations, volunteers, and support for the Representative.

"I'm happy to endorse Tammy Baldwin for Senate in Wisconsin. Tammy Baldwin has been a fierce advocate for equality, better healthcare coverage, and the rights of workers in the House and will continue that same advocacy in the Senate. I'm urging every person who intends to vote in the Democratic primary to also cast your ballot for Tammy Baldwin. When we win in November, we need Tammy in the Senate, not Scott Walker, who looks to undo the progress our country has made."

February 6-7: Washington

Fly to Washington
Rally in Seattle with Representative Inslee, highlighting Sebelius’s green infrastructure plan and carbon-neutral campaign
Townhalls in Kent, Tacoma, and Olympia on creating green jobs
Rally in Seattle with Governor Christine Gregoire

8: Maine

Fly to Portland
Rally in Portland

“Maine is one of the states Democrats can’t afford to take for granted in the fall. Without Maine, our path to 270 gets a lot trickier, and after two consecutive Presidents, we need to ensure we keep it in our column. I’ve always admired Maine’s independent spirit, and that’s borne out in the politics here. I worry if we nominate someone who can’t appeal to Independents and some moderate Republicans, we’ll be writing off states like Maine.

Now, you may ask me how I’ll do this without upsetting our base. Well, you don’t have to sell out your values to have cross-partisan support, as my time as Governor has shown. As Governor, I was able to work with Republicans to balance the budget, expand education, and get prescription drug prices down, even while standing up for keeping abortion safe, legal and rare and protecting gay people from being fired for who they are.”

9-12: Maryland and Virginia

Fly to Baltimore
Rally in Baltimore accepting Senator Barbara Mikulski’s endorsement

“I never thought I’d get to see the day where the Democratic Party would have not only one but two qualified women to choose from for our nominee. I’ll admit, I do have a preference. I’ll be voting for Governor Kathleen Sebelius in the primary on the 12th because she understands that the government should be accountable to the people it serves. I trust Kathleen to run our country and I believe she has the right kind of experience our country needs.”

Education roundtables in Ellicott City and Columbia
Rally in Rockville
Rally in Bethesda
Cross into Virginia
Rally in Alexandria
Small business roundtables in Fairfax, Falls Church, and Arlington

Surrogate schedule and GOTV

The Sebelius campaign is confident post-Super Tuesday due to the strong results that night, rising poll numbers, and strength in the upcoming states. Sebelius and her team believes they’re favored in Washington, Nebraska, and among Democrats Abroad, and believe they can compete in Maine and Maryland, perhaps scoring a surprise or two. In Nebraska, Senator Ben Nelson has long run the campaign’s operation in the state, reaching out to the same coalition that has supported him, rural voters alongside college-educated voters. Nelson will hold rural townhalls across the Western portion of the state, with headline events in Lincoln, Grand Island, and Omaha. The campaign will provide literature to new caucusgoers, explaining the system and what to expect. Washington, another Western caucus state, is home to some prominent endorsers and once-speculated candidates Governor Christine Gregoire and Representative Jay Inslee. Jay Inslee will hold events across his district, centered on Seattle. Governor Gregoire will join the Representative in Seattle, but will primarily hold events in Olympia and Tacoma, highlighting Sebelius’s record as Governor. In Maryland, Senator Barbara Mikulski will chair the campaign arm, joined by Governor Sebelius herself. Mikulski will primarily campaign in Baltimore, hoping to boost turnout in her home city to carry Sebelius over the top. As for Sebelius, she will hold GOTV efforts in Frederick, hoping turnout here alongside Baltimore will be enough to win the state.

Sebelius Schedule

Source

February 13-19th:
Wisconsin

Fly to Madison
Rally with Tammy Baldwin in Madison

“I’m kicking off my campaign in Wisconsin on the behalf of my friend Tammy Baldwin. Now, Tammy has remained neutral in the primary, and I respect that. I’m not here for her endorsement however, I’m here to tell you how important it is for you to get out and support Tammy on the 19th. I hope regardless of your support in the Presidential primary, you’ll get out there and vote for Tammy in the special election!”

Townhalls in Janesville and Waukesha on renegotiating NAFTA
Joint rally in Milwaukee with Senator Herb Kohl

“I’m so happy to introduce my friend, and our next President of the United States, Kathleen Sebelius! Kathleen perfectly represents the kind of values we care about here in Wisconsin, she’s an advocate for fairer trade, a balanced budget, and energy independence for our country. But, she doesn’t only have the ideas, she also has the plans to get it done and the record of success we can believe in. We have to work to send a message to the rest of America, that the Midwest supports Kathleen, that we know she hears our concerns, and that she can win in November!”

Townhall with Gwen Moore in Milwaukee
Business roundtable in Menomonee Falls
Rally in Fond du Lac
Rally in Oshkosh on using green jobs to boost the economy and get to energy independence
Speak to students and educators at Rasmussen University in Green Bay
GOTV in Green Bay with Senator Stabenow

GOTV efforts and surrogate schedule

The Sebelius campaign believes they have momentum on their side and thinks a decisive win in Wisconsin could change this race in their favor. Combining a populist message, regional strength in the Midwest, and high profile surrogate visits, they’re confident in a win in the state and hope they can establish coattails for Tammy Baldwin. Senator Herb Kohl is chairing the Wisconsin arm of the Sebelius campaign and will be on the trail on her behalf. The Senator will highlight Sebelius’s position on trade, the environment, and her connections to the Midwest in events in Milwaukee, Madison, Eau Claire, and Oshkosh, before running GOTV in Milwaukee. Also in Milwaukee, recent endorser Representative Gwen Moore will be focusing on turnout in her home district, hoping to boost both Kathleen and Tammy Baldwin. The representative will focus on Sebelius’s plan for small business tax cuts and commitment to keeping abortion safe, legal, and rare, alongside those same points for Tammy Baldwin. On the other side of the state, Representative Ron Kind will be boosting turnout throughout his district, focusing on Sebelius’s bipartisan record and plan to hold the federal government accountable, while hitting Scott Walker as too far-right for Wisconsin. Kind will coordinate GOTV in La Crosse on primary day. Neighboring Senator Tom Vilsack will also campaign in the state, primarily working in the southwestern portion of Wisconsin, where the shared border with Iowa means his name ID is higher, Vilsack hopes to boost rural turnout there for Kathleen. As for Governor Sebelius, she will spend primary day alongside neighboring Senator Debbie Stabenow in Green Bay, highlighting her commitment to fair trade deals and her ability to work across the aisle for all Americans, before settling in to see the results pour in from the state.

Kathleen Sebelius Victory Speech

"Wisconsin and Hawaii had their voices heard tonight, and they said this race isn't over! I want to thank everyone who came out and voted today, all of you who donated your time, money, and energy to this movement. It's obvious that this race isn't over, and I'm focused on winning this primary, not trying to pivot when there are still plenty of votes out there.

I want to congratulate your new Senator Tammy Baldwin! I'm so proud of the campaign she ran, the fact that she pulled this off in spite of going up against both Ron Paul and Donald Trump! I also want to thank Senator Clinton for putting in the hard work to get Tammy elected. We can't lose sight of what is important, and Tammy Baldwin will be an important ally to any Democratic President.

I'm so grateful to be a part of this movement for a new way forward. We still have a competitive primary ahead of us, but I believe Wisconsin and Hawaii have changed the trajectory of the race. I believe together we will win the nomination and The White House! Thank you!"

February 20-24th: Ohio

Fly to Cleveland
Rally in Cleveland with Sherrod Brown
Townhalls in Elyria and Sandusky
Rally in Toledo with Rep Marcy Kaptur

“Kathleen Sebelius is a leader. When she got into this race, there was bipartisan support for bad trade deals that have hurt communities like ours. After her win in Iowa, we had prominent Democrats lining up to support the very position that Kathleen ran on from the beginning. She’s the kind of leader we can trust. She doesn’t only understand the Midwest, she’s from here, she’s been elected here, and she’s led here. She knows the kind of work it takes to be President, and Ohio needs to be the state that nominates her and elects her in November!”

Townhalls in Lima, Dayton, and Springfield
Rally in Cincinnati

“Cincinnati, it’s good to be back! I grew up right here and was inspired to serve by my father, who served this great state as Governor back in the 70s. Back then, I got to travel around Ohio campaigning for my dad. He always made me proud by doing the right thing, even when it came at an electoral cost. Ohio is where I learned about civic duty, Kansas is where I practiced it. As your President, I won’t just think of our community when elections roll around. I will negotiate with communities like ours here in Cincinnati in my mind, whether that’s for an infrastructure bill to reinvest in places left behind by Washington politicians or if it’s for renegotiating trade deals to ensure our commitment to labor and environmental standards are upheld. I hope to earn your vote in both this primary and the general, and I will work tirelessly for the people, not special interests in Washington!”

February 25-March 4th: Texas

Fly to San Antonio
Rally in San Antonio with Rep Rubén Hinojosa
Small business roundtables in San Marcos and New Braunfels
Rally in Austin with Rep Lloyd Doggett

“I’m happy to introduce my friend Kathleen Sebelius here tonight! Kathleen has earned my vote and the vote of Texas. Kathleen is committed to an open, transparent government that’s accountable to the people, the same thing I’ve pushed for my entire time in politics. When I look at Kathleen’s plan for how to run Washington I see a true leader who hears our concerns and comes up with real solutions for them. Kathleen doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk. She doesn’t just talk about balancing the budget, she’s balanced one, she doesn’t just talk about carbon neutrality, she’s running a carbon-neutral campaign. This is the type of leader not only Texas needs but all of America!”

Townhalls in Round Rock and Temple
Rally in Waco with Rep Chet Edwards
Education townhall in Hillsboro
Rally in Fort Worth with Governor Brad Henry
Townhalls in Abilene and Midland
Rally in Lubbock

“A lot of national Democrats roll their eyes when I say I respect the Second Amendment, but many of them don’t understand Middle America. The truth is, the vast majority of gun owners are responsible, and legislation often punishes them for bad actors who have obtained guns illegally. This is why I’ve pushed for compromise in this area, both vetoing a concealed carry bill that would put children at risk and overturning a machine gun ban that was unenforceable and hurt collectors. As your President, I will respect your right to own a gun and invest in smart gun technology to keep people safe while preventing infringement on the Second Amendment. Democrats can’t have a purity test on issues like this and expect to have a winning coalition, we risk alienating responsible gun owners like my constituents back in Kansas, and voters here in Texas.”

Townhalls in Guthrie and Wichita Falls
Roundtables in Gainesville and Plano
Rally in Dallas with Rep Eddie Bernice Johnson
Speak at the University of Texas in Arlington
Townhalls in Stephenville and Brownwood
Rally in San Angelo
Townhalls in Brady and Marble Falls
Rally in Austin
GOTV in Austin

Surrogates and GOTV

Ohio:

Ohio is Sebelius country, according to the campaign. Between Kathleen having been born and raised in Cincinnati, her father’s own political history in the state, their proven strength among white working-class voters, and the number of endorsers who have lined up in the state and in neighboring states, the campaign has reasons to be confident. Sherrod Brown has become the chair of the Ohio arm of the campaign, coordinating with other elected officials, campaign staff, and volunteers. The Senator will hold rallies in Akron, Canton, and Cleveland, speaking on Sebelius’s plan to negotiate NAFTA and her Midwestern roots. He will be joined in Akron and Youngstown by Senator Bob Casey Jr. who will speak on Sebelius’s bipartisanship and governing record. Senator Evan Bayh will join the Governor for her rally in Cincinnati and will stay to campaign there until election day, highlighting her plan for government accountability. Representative Marcy Kaptur will hold events across her district, from Toledo to Cleveland, focusing on the history-making primary, trade, and plans to invest in infrastructure.

Rhode Island:

In Rhode Island, the campaign hopes to pull another surprise win like the one in neighboring Massachusetts, and even though the delegate total is small in the state many prominent surrogates will be campaigning there. Senator Jack Reed will barnstorm across the state, highlighting Sebelius’s healthcare plan and commitment to civil rights. On election day, he will hold a major GOTV rally in his home townCraston, urging voters to get out and support Sebelius. He will be joined by neighboring Senator John Kerry and Governor Deval Patrick, both viewed as having played a decisive role in Sebelius’s victory in Massachusetts. The Senator will primarily hold events across the border of Rhode Island and Massachusetts but will join the GOTV push in Providence on Primary Day, personally knocking on doors alongside a rally in the city. Governor Patrick will be spending his time in Providence, speaking at Brown University and Rhode Island College, hoping to boost turnout based on Sebelius’s education reform plan. Finally, they will be joined by Senator Chris Dodd, who will hold events across the Rhode Island Connecticut border, hoping to run up the margins in the small towns there.

Texas:

While not being seen as a must-win, Sebelius and her campaign believe the state’s demographics and region make it a toss-up, and they believe the momentum is on their side. They are helped by the strength in neighboring states, having won Oklahoma and New Mexico decisively and having both Governors’ endorsements, prominent endorsements from members of the Texas delegation, and a recent bump in polling. They hope the strength in rural areas and among Hispanic voters will carry them to victory. Governor Bill Richardson will spend much of his time in El Paso, which shares a media market with part of his state. The Governor will campaign on a balanced budget and support of the Second Amendment, highlighting Sebelius’s cross-party support and ability to govern in a red state. He will also work on Hispanic outreach in the state, ensuring the campaign is highlighting their education and small business plans in English and in Spanish. Governor Brad Henry will campaign across the Oklahoma-Texas border, with rallies and barnstorming events from Dallas to Amarillo. His campaign focus will be Sebelius’s ability to work across the aisle without compromising her values. On Primary Day, he will GOTV in Amarillo, where the campaign hopes to run up the margins to lead to a victory. As for the new endorsers of Sebelius, they will all campaign across their districts, hoping to build support across the entire state. Representative Chet Edwards will mostly campaign in Waco on bipartisanship and getting results rather than demonizing the other side. Representative Rubén Hinojosa will highlight Sebelius’s plan for infrastructure and education, and how investment would help his district. Representative Charlie Gonzalez will primarily campaign in San Antonio, focusing on the need for an outsider perspective and new leadership for the country. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson will be campaigning in Dallas, focusing on boosting turnout in a city where the campaign believes Sebelius is favored. Finally, Sebelius herself and Representative Lloyd Doggett will GOTV in Austin, holding several events together, meeting with volunteers, and phone banking. They will highlight Sebelius’s commitment to running a green campaign, investing in clean energy, and reforming Washington to make it more accountable.

Yeah I definitely will have to amend my schedule haha. I don’t have a strong preference of whether to skip ahead or do turns, though if we do turns I think a month at a time would be ideal to move things along.
