Anyway, keeping my mind open about this, but I want to see what he actually has to offer.

Random question, but how do I add a photo to my signature? I can’t seem to find out how.

Same as in posts, use [ img ] and [ \img ] tags around a URL (without the spaces in the brackets)

Do Imgur links work?

Forum has had troubles with Imgur in the past. Not sure what the status is now. Maybe use a different hosting service if possible. (Any subsequent questions just PM me)

He'll finish in at least the top four and end up on the ticket in one spot or another.

Eh, I think Sanders still has a chance at the nom. And he doesn't pick Beto I don't think.

Also, Harris picking Beto definitely risks alienating progressives.

Yeah if he wanted to do this he should have jumped on the bandwagon before it died down and announced in like early Jan.

No one is calling him a Republican. The criticism I'm seeing is "not principled enough", "empty suit" etc.

Doesn't matter mate. Like Harris, no leftie is allowed to criticise Beto O'Rourke.
One, there is a thread in this very forum about which neo-liberal pro-choice Republican is most potent and Beto is mentioned in the OP. LOL.

Two, who's not allowed to criticize O'Rourke? Aren't you doing it right now? Unlike the Sanders supporters I don't become irrational and accuse everybody of sabotaging my candidate when something I disagree with is said.

Many Harris supporters etc. on this forum do exactly that. Or they basically say “We won’t tell address your criticism unless people stop saying that Saint Bernard is above criticism” even if the poster giving the critique doesn’t actually do that.

So, so far, our Beto supporters in this thread:

Blue avatars
Yellow avatars
Biden lovers
RFKFan

Sounds about right.

Yeah I feel like Harris is more media created than Beto.

Also Rubio was probably more of a media creation than Beto as well.

Jesus Christ.

For one thing, Harris’ qualifications/experience aren’t exactly stellar..

It seems like Harris supporters are actually going more scorched-earth than Sanders supporters, which is a major surprise.

Ok my question is y tf would he flip flop on healthcare after defending it while running STATEwide in texas and then chooses the opposite in a national D primary.
Seriously! It has really left a bitter taste in my mouth. One of the primary reasons I was for him was because I thought he’d be able to maneuver a general electorate with progressive policies. Of course my vote is almost a year away so I will see what he says on the debates but it’s looking grim for me as a continued supporter. I will not be content with working with Republicans as an answer when they will always be negotiating in bad faith. It’s unacceptable.

Why does Beto absolutely have to do the same as all the other candidates are doing, as in moving further and further to the left?
Beto doesn’t have to do anything but I supported him for POTUS with the belief that he would be retaining his stances from the 2018 election. I will end up bending on a lot of issues for the eventual nominee but healthcare is absolutely NOT one of them. Anyone saying they will be listening to both sides to come to a consensus is an absolute NO. Did we not just see how that played out ten years ago? My God. If I wanted Republican policies I would vote Republican. Smiley

I may just vote my conscience in the primary (Warren) and let the chips fall where they may.

I have also considered doing this; electoral chances (and primary chances) aside, Warren is clearly the best candidate in terms of who I'd like to be President, and is running the most policy-based campaign (with great policy planks).

I have a hunch about Beto's strategy for the primaries. He is running as a centrist/moderate (and maybe the only one of significance--IF BIDEN DECLINES) hoping to win over many of the same people that supported Hillary in 2016 and counting on all the progressive/socialist candidates to split that segment of the party across many candidates. In other words, Bernie had his segment of the party all to himself last time, but he won't have this luxury this cycle. Beto may even be able to win over some progressive voters (voting for personality over policy) as well as disillusioned Republicans. If I was forced to wager real $$$ on this outcome, I'd favor Beto for this reason. And double-down on it IF BIDEN DECLINES. #betonbeto
Thats a terrible strategy considering there are only two progressives and about 10 moderates running.

PROGRESSIVES:
Cory Booker
Julian Castro
Kirsten Gillibrand
Kamala Harris
John Hickenlooper
Jay Inslee
Amy Klobuchar
Bernie Sanders
Elizabeth Warren

MODERATES:
Beto O'Rourke
Tulsi Gabbard
Joe Biden (STILL UNDECIDED)

Care to try again?

Uh what

I really am curious why he waited so long to announce this - surely he could have taken advantage of weekend news cycle better by announcing this as soon as it had happened?

Anyway, good for Beto.

I’m still very confused by the fact that he’s running to the right after building up a progressive image of himself, and why most of his support from here is from right wingers. Maybe we’ll get some clarity during the debates.

This is what essentially will help him. Policy doesn’t matter. All the old people who watch the news on loop everyday are going to vote based on what they see and who they perceive as popular. The rantings of some candidate’s followers on Reddit and Twitter about being owned by big oil and Wall Street are not going to move the needle in a primary that will be plurality people over the age of 50. LOL.

Upon visiting my parents last weekend, it appeared FOX News is covering Beto non stop and trying to make him a bogeyman. Seems pretty stupid of them to heighten him up out of the mid tier if you ask me

Basically the equivalent of CNN’s coverage of Trump I guess.

I could care less how much he raised. He's a sell out plain and simple. He most likely never supported single payer and only did it to attract an audience. I would vote Harris over him at this point, I'm not kidding!!!!! She's not perfect either but at least she's mostly running as an actual progressive.
Oh, now money raised doesn't matter? Got it.
That's not the point..... I do like that he doesn't take money from donors and is able to fundraise well without having to do that. But other then that, Beto sucks. Here's a guy who literally ran to the left when he was running for the senate in a RED STATE and now all of a sudden he's disavowed that, and you expect me to believe him? And second of all, I'm supporting Gillibrand this time, not Bernie(he really is too old), so your whole strawman is nonsense.

Beto might be the most repulsive person running, though it's hard to beat Booker at that game.

Next on the list of people who are going to kill the democratic party with their delusional whining.

I'm not voting for Trump. Again with you clumping all R's together.

Uh, you were cheerleading for Trump et al until like a month ago.

Real question, when are we actually going to see Beto’s policies? Because right now the only indication are his blue dog endorsements (plus half of his support on here is from #bothsides moderate heroes, Republicans, and libertarians). I want to like Beto, but I really need to know what he’s running as first.

I notice you haven't asked where Harris', Klobuchar's, and Mayor Pete's platforms are.  I wonder why that is...

Well I’m not supporting Klobuchar either and haven’t been too impressed with Harris so far, actually. And Buttigieg’s lack of a platform is also holding my opinion of his campaign down.

So nice deflection, but my question still stands.
