How well would you be able to adapt to ME-AL and/or RI-AL at some point within the next generation?

As to Maine: It would probably take me a whole decade to stand that loss.
As to Rhode Island it's exactly the other way round; I can't even understand why this tiny blob of land mass is still split into two districts.

As to Montana: It was about time that that state gained a second representative. since it used to be the most underrepresented state in the US the last decade. My brain merely has to cope with the new situation; someone wrote about MT-1 and MT-2 and I was thinking about what he could mean. 😄

Don't forget that DE-01 and DE-02 might happen at some point in the next few decades

Last time Delaware had 4 EV, Biden voted for Clinton.

Huh

Delaware has never had 4 EVs.

Huh

It did. For one single decade.
I wouldn't mind telling you and GALeftist when, but then my sophisticated joke would lose its effect. Roll Eyes

Touché, but technically, old man Biden would've voted for James Monroe the last time that Delaware had 4 EVs in 1820, not DeWitt Clinton the first time that they had them in 1812.

I just wanted to make fun of Biden's age, just like Kimmel, Colbert, Oliver & Co. do in every second episode of their respective shows. Plus, I wanted to insert Clinton's name solely for the purpose of confusing readers.

I could, of course, just have written instead:
The last time Delaware gained a second district and thus a fourth elector, all four electors cast their ballots for Clinton.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that the overall winner of the senatorial elections will be...

Spoiler alert! Click Show to show the content.

I moreover proceed on the assumption that he would be Trump's running mate in 2024, if he were eligible for that office.

Oh, indeed. I didn't know he was born in Germany. It's a shame that two of America's greatest entrepreneurs can't be elected president because of that silly Article 2 Section 1 Clause 5.

Nevertheless, with Balke Masters and J. D. Vance winning their respective primaries, Thiel remains the winner of this primary season.

I think that's what it's called, yeah. The one of whether the Kansas Constitution should be re-interpreted to preclude the right to an abortion, or whatever roundabout wording they used.

Ah, okay. I was a bit confused since the Wikipedia result map looks entirely different.
But I think that map hasn't been updated over the last hours, whereas yours includes the most recent updates.
Are the results - No: 61.09% | Yes: 38.91% - still current?

Update: The Wikipedia map has been updated in the meantime, without a change of the map URL.

This is where I'm getting my numbers:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/election-results/kansas/2022-primaries/

It has the totals at 58.8% No to 41.2% Yes.

Maybe the Wikipedia map only shows county results from counties that are 100% reporting? I'm not sure.

That's funny ... The moment you posted your comment, the Wikipedia map has been updated. Interesting that the map URL didn't change.
The results haven't been changed yet, though. I hope that the Wikipedia figures will remain the correct ones, cause should the WP numbers prove themselves true, it would cast a very poor light on the Kansans.

Via Kansas SOS:

3993/3994 Precincts Reporting
NO: 534075 (58.78%)
YES: 374521 (41.22%)

I observed it already some years ago, we Europeans only have access to very few American state SOS websites. So, thanks for providing me/us with that information!

PS: Not only the map, but also the results have been updated on the Wikipedia page in the meantime.

What are the odds that the U.S. House primary and the U.S. House special election in Alaska deliver different results?

100%, because there are 22 candidates running in the primary for November and only 3 in the Special.

I meant, is it utterly improbable that two different candidate emerge the winners from those two different contests? If you're indecisive, it is very convenient to have two different contests for the same seat on the same day.

I'm following on Washington Post, but that's a paid subscription.

Just like NYT.
It's a shame that CNN provides maps for any statewide race - bar House races, even if they're statewide. Strangely, for Alaska they do deliver maps, both for the primary and for the special election.

Unfortunately, I've already reached my limit of free articles after reading ONE article.
I guess you're a subscriber to NYT?

Yeah, but Palin has near universal Name ID, is a rather controversial figure even in Alaska, and the Begich family are a very well-known, multi-generational, popular Democratic political family in Alaska.  I guarantee some folks think Begich is a moderate Democrat or at least more reasonable than he actually is just b/c of his last name.  Again though, the big thing is that Palin has near-universal Name ID and a lot of it is negative at this point.  There was a reason she opted not to run for re-election in 2010.

Wait ... According to CNN, the Alaska holds a nonpartisan primary. I thoroughly hope that that doesn't apply to the special election. It ought to be obligatory for the candidates' party affiliations to be listed beside their names, in my assessment.

All elections in Alaska are non-partisan now (except the presidential race). Honestly, it's how things should be done. Voters should be making choices based on quality and platform of candidates, not based on a letter next to their name.

I do understand your objection, but one key goal and pivotal means of democracy is to get as many citizens to the voting booths as possible, including the educationally disadvantaged strata, who usually don't tend to have sound knowledge of politics, or often don't have time to go into politics more closely, respectively. That single letter next to the candidates' names often helps them reach their decision, which they might regret afterwards when they can't reverse it anymore after reconsidering it when it's too late, for example in Begich's case who is the exact opposite of what "deceived" Democratic voters might have wanted.
Or imagine the 1996 senatorial election in Virginia; a nonpartisan general election would have been a catastrophe.

AK-AL: Peltola, Palin and Begich will advance!

Uncalled:

AK-AL Slot 4

Is there really any doubt that Sweeney will be the fourth candidate to advance to the general?

She probably did put Peltola as her second choice, especially since the alternative was Begich.

She almost certainly did that in the special election. But does that also apply to the primary?

"Tagesschau", not some random newscast, but thee TV news broadcast No. 1 in Germany, did a report on the U.S. House race in Wyoming.
I can't remember that they ever did a feature on a House primary, and certainly not about one in the least populous U.S. state.
.
Daughter of Dick Cheney gets successfully primaried following her refusal to support Donald Trump after Trump's supporters had stormed U.S. Congress over claims of election fraud that according to then-Republicam Vice President Mike Pence were completely unsubstantiated.

Imagine you would have tried to tell that someone ten years ago. (And that didn't even include any info that Trump used in fact to be president.)

Who is that Tara Sweeney?
I'm asking because she received a majority of votes in House district No. 40 (the northernmost one) the primary of the special election, despite finishing a mere fifth statewide.
In the general special election, Democrat Mary Sattler Peltola won that district quite clearly in the first round, while Sweeney herself won HD 40 in the concurrent primary for the regular House election again.
I know that she was born and grew up in North Slope Borough. But does that alone explain her outstanding success in HD 40? I assume she is Murkowski-type, anti-Trump RINO, which could explain why there are so many Sweeney-Peltola voters. But moreover, Sweeney seems to be some kind of local hero up there, eben though she lives in Anchorage.

I can't believe we live in such f***ed up times that I am genuinely lamenting the electoral loss of a Cheney.
