My grandma broke her hip this weekend after falling down and having an accident Sad

From what I've heard breaking your hip is not the worst operation you can have and she is in pretty good health for her age, but still this sucks a lot. Plus there were no free rooms this weekend so she was basically stranded in the emergencies area before given a "proper" room this morning. I really feel bad for her, going to visit her in an hour and a half or so. (before she was given a room visits were much more limited so it was my mum who went there)

Hoping she recovers easily and swiftly. I think she will be operated tomorrow if I am not mistaken but of course there will be a post-operation period until she is fully recovered.

Update on my grandmother: The operation thankfully went well (as well as a hip replacement operation can go anyways) and seems like she did not have any trouble with the operation itself. She was discharged from the hospital this Friday, after 1 week

However, now begins the hard part, where she needs to recover from the sequels, slowly getting to walk again and what not. She is able to walk (very slowly) with a walking aid; though she needs help to stand up and do much other stuff. For now she has moved in with the rest of my family. Getting full mobility back (assuming it even happens at all though I try to stay optimistic) will take a long while.

Well, I just had a handful of good news back to back to back over the past 2 weeks or so.

First of all, I finally finished the final assignment for my college degree. I am now waiting for the university to tell me when I can go ahead and read it. And if I pass I will finally be done with college for good. One year late but whatever.

Secondly, I finally have an appointment for the covid vaccine. I should be getting vaccinated on the 19th of July, well ahead of my predicted schedule (I expected to get vaccinated on late August at best or autumn at worst)

Finally, I there is a good possibility of travelling for holidays for the first time since pre-covid; to meet up with some friends I haven't seen in 1 year and a half. So if it ends up working I am super excited for that possibility.

There is still some bureaucratic stuff to do, but as of today, I can finally say I am a college educated #elitist Cheesy

The urge to look down upon non-college educated working class plebs is irresistable right now Tongue

But seriously I am so happy I am finally done with my degree. I was quite burnt out at the end and this month has been in a weird sort of limbo.

Well, a couple days ago I received the bad news that my cousin tested positive for Covid Sad

Interestingly, because of my group of acquaintances being rather small, this marks only the third person to catch Covid that I know of; after 2 friends of mine caught it last summer.

Hoping he recovers well and that no one else in my family catches it. He is young (younger than myself in fact) and in quite good physical shape (he is a basketball player); so he should get through it fairly easily and so should my uncle, aunt and my other cousin should they catch it but still you never know.

I know.  I don't like to brag (I'm English) but I've done very well out of going straight into work rather than continuing education.

But if Tack50 wants to look down on me that's fine.

Needless to say that was sarcasm Tongue

I am actually of the opinion that university is not for everyone and there should be strong alternatives to university that are viewed as equally valid to university; with stuff like apprenticeships being promoted more and what not.

Sadly Spain's year 10 degree (ESO) is too basic for it to be worth all that much and the year 12 one (Bachillerato) is extremely focused towards you continuing your education with at least an apprenticeship so it also doesn't improve your job opportunities much (in fact you are much better off after year 10 pursuing a "standard level apprenticeship" instead of years 11-12 if you know you won't go to university for sure). Unemployment being at 16% also does not help at all.

Though the only person I know that didn't continue their education after HS is also doing quite well for themselves interestingly (went from retail clerk to now store manager I believe)

Well, today was quite an exciting day. I had doubts over whether there was a chance of a friend of mine having given me covid or not, so yesterday I booked an appointment for a covid test for this morning. The only issue was, the only place I was able to find to make an appointment was all the way on the other end of the island, in the touristy areas (about a 40 minute, 50km drive)

Get in my car, drive to the hospital. Full of German tourists performing tests to get back home, and myself. Did the quick antigen test (I needed the results asap), and tested negative thankfully.

To make the trip worthwhile I decided to head to a nearby beach and spent about an hour there swimming and what not. The sun was shining and the day was rather hot.

After that I had my appointment for the covid vaccine, which I finally got today (Moderna). But not without first waiting for 1 hour in a parking lot with no shade Tongue

Overall quite an active day and I still have to do a couple things this afternoon!

Just came back from a 6 day trip with friends yesterday night. It was absolutely amazingly fun, 100% recommend but tbh I am now quite a bit sad cause I've realized I don't have that many friends or activities to do and what not with this trip being basically a mirage and an exception to my usually quite boring and lonely life Sad

Guess I have to look at it as a "be happy that it happened, not sad that it ended" kind of trip. I am hoping for a bit of a fresh start this September (and equal parts excited and absolutely terrrfied about it), but this August is going to be an extremely weird transitional month.

I forgot to update people but I got my 2nd Moderna dose on Monday at about 1pm

On Monday I was fine other than my arm hurting a bit. However late at night I developed a very sudden fever, I was shaking a lot.

Tuesday I woke up horribly and was sick the entire day. Paracetamol every 6 hours saved me from being completely useless and in a horrible state. I did oddly gradually get better as the day passed though (normally when I am sick I feel worse during the evening and better during the morning)

Today I woke up fine other than a small headache which quickly went away.

Finally got my BioNtech/Pfitzer vaccine shot today. As I was tested positive six months ago, there's just one shot recommended by the RKI (German CDC) after half a year has passed.

Interesting, have heard of that from a German friend as well. I'm not sure there's any other country where that is the case, but it seems like a logical thing to do to get maximal use of the doses available.

Hopefully having been infected (January) and double-vaccinated (March and April) makes me about as protected as a person can be. I'm not too worried about Delta, because even when I had the virus it was relatively mild (relatively mild - it was horrible, but did not feel dangerous) and would certainly be milder now, but I'm just exhausted. I want to not think about it ever again.

I can say that the Spanish protocol seems to be exactly the same as the German one. If you've caught covid at any point, you only get 1 shot of the vaccine and not two.

You also must wait for 6 months until you get your only shot, although starting right now my region will cut this from 6 months to only 2 in order to get more people vaccinated.

I would not be too surprised if it was some sort of EU wide policy, but I think it's country by country.

Lately, every 2 weeks or so, I've started to do some walks on the countryside alone, and while the first one was a nice experience, they've gone from bad to worse since.

In the last one I took (this Sunday), I slid down on a wet section and fell for a while. Thankfully I didn't get injured at all other than like extremely superficial injuries on my leg and getting my clothes super dirty with mud. Even worse, I immediately proceeded to get completely lost, with no cellphone coverage (I wasn't even in a particularly remote area, the whole walk takes about 15 minutes!).

There wasn't anyone around and after like 20 minutes of failing to find the path I finally found it and was able to come home safe, but I am starting to think that doing something like that is extremely risky and that I've been lucky to not get completely lost or something and that I should at least tell somebody where I am going and that kind of stuff and prepare better even when I attempt super simple stuff.

I'm 95% sure somebody on Atlas viewed my profile on a social media site last week and if so I'm pretty certain I know who.  Kinda scary in a way.  Maybe I'm overreacting but I think everyone should take more care with what you reveal on here and never have your email address set to public.

Your first mistake right there.

Well tonight I will be attending a party in an industrial area in the middle of nowhere. Just hoping everything goes fine but who knows. My feeling is either it will be completely terrible or it will be absolutely amazing, no grey areas

Outdoor activities, so long as I am distant from other people, are permitted.

and the guidance should be updated. fully vaccinated people showing no symptoms shouldn't be in isolation for 10 days.

But  no, of course, I would not go inside any indoor establishment right now even with a mask on.

They might be permitted but that does not mean they are a good idea!

Since everyone is posting about flights, here is mine

May God bless Ryanair; and that wasn't even the cheapest combination! (Under different dates I could have flown for as little as 25€, and only 6,25€ after government subsidies)

@Santander ; if you truly want to live like the common people; taking some dirt cheap Ryanair flight with no extras is the way to go Wink

I got a small njury the other day when I was drunk. I have no idea where or how I got it and idk why but I am worried it might be serious when it is just a tiny injury in my hand.

My guess is I just fell and got it that way, but like I said that is pure guesswork. And not knowing how I got it makes me a bit worried that it might be bad when 99.9% chance I'll be fine

Well, tomorrow I will be moving within the city of Madrid (mostly due to going to a much cheaper place; I chose the original since I would be going all alone but no longer suits me). The new place is very well located and the house is modern, only issue being having 5 flatmates (on the bright side I guess I'll get along with at least one if only due to sheer chance)

However what Atlas will care most about is how my new precinct votes. And in news that will delight many red avatars I am moving to a more progressive place. Sadly it is still an "All Conservative, All the time" precinct (old vs new precinct compared)

General election 2019: 80->73% Right
Regional election 2021: 83->77% Right

On the bright side Vox no longer is the 2nd largest party on either election (PSOE comfortably comes in 2nd place in the general election, MM narrowly beats PSOE and Vox in the regional one)

Fun fact: My new precinct is literally a 5 minute walk away from the PSOE HQ. I swear I did not do it on purpose
