Since Michelle speaks tonight, I wonder if Melania will be taking notes again?

Presumably, yeah, they did serve together back in the day so it makes sense. Seems like Kasich exaggerated the "prominent" aspect of the endorser, though.

Yes, the broadcast networks (NBC, ABC, CBS) are showing the 10:00pm-11:00pm hour each night - so, just the headliners - while the cable networks (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, C-SPAN) are showing the entirety of the programming (& more, if you include "special convention coverage").

It's gonna be so weird having these speeches be delivered from living rooms to no audience.

Part of the convention spectacle is the big echo and the crowd roaring, all the reaction shots.

Hopefully it doesn't just feel like a series of YouTube videos.

I'm hoping they'll be at scenic locations with professional camera crews. If not I'll be highly upset.

I can't confirm anything but a certain Mayor is scheduled to speak at a scenic location.

Is this in reference to something? I feel like it's obvious but my stupidity is in overdrive rn & I can't tell Tongue

Jacquelyn > the NYT Editorial Board.

Seriously, if there's ever a documentary &/or scripted series about the 2020 Democratic primary, the juxtaposition of Biden failing to impress the Editorial Board but completely flooring Jacquelyn will be the moment that foreshadows his ultimate victory. Hell, I don't even remember the NYT Editorial Board's interview with him, but I remember this video. That says it all, really.

I always found it funny that is was Joe Biden that told Carter that Kennedy was going to primary him.

Wow, really? Never heard that lol

The Roses better get their pitchfork ready because Schlossberg is getting his JD now and he going to run for something.

If his reason for running for office isn't solely dependent on his grandfather's name, then I'm all for his future political career.

If his reason for running for office isn't solely dependent on his grandfather's name, then I'm all for his future political career.

Seems like he's been trying to get ready to run for office since he was 8. Another silver spoon prep kid at Harvard. Does he really care about some peasants in Nebraska who can't afford insulin?

The greatness of RFK/JFK was lightning in a bottle.. don't look for greatness from the family line just because of the last name.

Didn't say that's what I'm doing, you'd have to talk to MillennialModerate to get that kind of response.

But if Schlossberg - when he runs for office - actually offers serious & compelling arguments as to why he'd be the best candidate to hold the office he's running for, then I'm not gonna oppose him purely on the basis of his name.

Compare that to the primary challenge that Markey is receiving from JKIII, who hasn't made a clear case as to why he thinks Markey is out-of-touch with Massachusetts & its values, hasn't provided any real argument for why he'd be a better Senator for Massachusetts than Markey, & is seemingly only banking on his name-recognition & Camelot nostalgia to win him this primary so he can use the Senate seat to elevate his profile to presidential material-status.

All of this is to say that if Schlossberg were to - like JKIII - base his campaign on the basis of who his family is, then I'd oppose him for doing so. But if he were to actually show & prove that he deserves an opportunity to hold elected office regardless of who his family happens to be, then I wouldn't oppose him because he still happens to be a member of that particular family anyway.

By the way, where’s Al Gore? Are they keeping him a surprise?

As of right now, he's not speaking. But we didn't know Carter would speak 'til the day of, so who knows anymore?

I can't believe we went from someone as incredible as Obama to this orange clown

It’s a pendulum. Bush was a redneck idiot who couldn’t string a sentence together and only got anywhere because of his family name. We elected his total opposite, an incredibly smart and eloquent, well-spoken black man who earned his success. Now in reaction we’ve got a racist idiot even more incoherent than Bush and even less deserving of his “success.”

W. isn't stupid. In fact, he's actually very intelligent. That whole "W. is stupid" thing is only a result of his awful public speaking skills:

Watching Kamala's speech, it's wild thinking about how her & her campaign team managed to just completely bungle her primary campaign.

False. Obama did the exact same thing at the 2008 convention after Biden spoke. Can't recall regarding 2012, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Obama did it then too, after Bill Clinton spoke.

So, yeah: please shut the hell up, BRTD.

The only major Democrat that hasn't publicly endorsed Joe Biden so far is former VP Walter Mondale. I wonder why he hasn't made a public statement yet.
He must be quite old, is he functioning?

He palled around with fellow VPs Biden & Pence on the Senate floor a couple years back, took part in a Carter Center panel with Jimmy last year, & played a semi-active role in Klobuchar's presidential campaign, so presumably, yes.

I'm with the rest of you all. Who cares that AOC wasn't invited to speak. What exactly has she done to warrant being given a slot at the DNC?

Galvanize young people & make the Democratic Party feel vibrant & full of ideas & cognitive diversity? If an Illinois State Senator can be chosen once upon a time to deliver the DNC keynote because he represented the inspiring, hopeful message that the Democratic Party stands for, than AOC can be invited to speak.

Biden campaign says $70 million was raised this week. Great numbers.

IIRC, the Hillary campaign only raised like ~$30 million off the 2016 convention.

This is gonna be an interesting November.
