Will fill this page with stuff later but my back hurts and I want to get this up before I go to bed.

I know the DNC is two hours per day for four days starting at 9pm ET.

Since Michelle speaks tonight, I wonder if Melania will be taking notes again?

Too bad Jimmy Carter won't speak during this convention. Maybe he's too old to do this. He should send a message at least.

Presumably, yeah, they did serve together back in the day so it makes sense. Seems like Kasich exaggerated the "prominent" aspect of the endorser, though.

I think there are more names that'll be released throughout the day/week of Republicans supporting Biden. Perez said there were multiple that would be coming out this week.

Yes, the broadcast networks (NBC, ABC, CBS) are showing the 10:00pm-11:00pm hour each night - so, just the headliners - while the cable networks (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, C-SPAN) are showing the entirety of the programming (& more, if you include "special convention coverage").

Tonight's lineup looks super strong. I think the condensed nature of this could be more impactful, as it'll be easier for viewers to tune in without getting bored too quickly.

But does "coverage" mean that they're actually going to show every speaker?  Normally for a political convention, while C-SPAN shows every speaker, the news networks like CNN cut away to the talking heads for commentary if the speaker of the moment isn't a sufficiently big name.  Maybe it'll be different this time since the speaking schedule is condense?  I don't know.

DNC released an excerpt of Michelle Obama's speech tonight:

https://twitter.com/i/status/1295462551556370433

Interesting tactic, I'd worry that it would blunt the news value and freshness of an already canned speech but obviously they have a digital heavy strategy.

In terms of staging, I find it kind of flat. But pretty remarkable they will get the networks to air all of it just the same, sure it was calibrated for max effect.

Hm. I think the personal feel to these speeches might be better than a stage. There's not as much 'pizzazz' but like Biden/Harris intro speech last week, the fact that was intimate with no applause lines or audience made it more easily connectable to the audience IMO

I still think the strategy was way off. They basically had all the money in the world to send these people to neat places and make these canned videos feel special. Instead, we get the Obama basement.

Why not send her to a national park with a first-rate camera crew? Why not shut down the Statue of Liberty for a day and send Bernie there to deliver his remarks? I know they want to avoid drawing a crowd, but there are plenty of isolated places they could have gone to do something powerful.

This is so flat, and it didn’t have to be that way if they were willing to inject some creativity into the process.

Do Americans want to see political figures casually visiting all the places we've been deprived from for months just to give a speech? Or would we rather see them just as cooped up as the rest of us?

It's gonna be so weird having these speeches be delivered from living rooms to no audience.

Part of the convention spectacle is the big echo and the crowd roaring, all the reaction shots.

Hopefully it doesn't just feel like a series of YouTube videos.

I'm hoping they'll be at scenic locations with professional camera crews. If not I'll be highly upset.
