I also realized that I somehow neglected to mention the fact that I'm now in a relationship (it's been six months, c'mon man). I think this is a first for any Atlas poster under the age of 19, and certainly the first for any young Atlas straight. So that's my life at the current moment and it's been great

Hahah, well... He's extremely cute, we have an astounding chemistry (which is notable because there are few people with whom I feel so free to talk), and his smile is the best. Oh, and we're mostly compatible politically which is a nice bonus. So I think it's safe to say I'm very glad I chanced upon him.

My parrot flew away yesterday and we never found him, even though we looked really hard. He was with us for five years (and could've lived for 45 more), and almost felt human because he was very smart and learned to mimick words quickly. Hell, he told us 'bless you' when we sneezed and 'bye' when we went out.
It's really painful. I just hope someone either took him in, or he passed quickly and without too much pain. I can't bear the thought of him shivering in the cold, lost, hungry and thirsty, petrified by foreign voices like howling jackals and fireworks.

Update: He's been found! The sister of my father's colleague called to say that she found a parrot in her building. We quickly arrived, and without a shred of doubt it's him. The little rascal managed to make his way to the city's center, fairly far away from our home. He's weak and tired, but hopefully with some food, rest and water will get better!

In other news, I won an award at a Model UN conference today for successfully convincing a bunch of bored teenagers to gut America’s campaign finance system, and I’m not sure how I feel about it

Thank you to all of you guys for your kind words! I’m exhausted from the trip, but still so excited about everything. I know that I’m such an incredibly lucky person for not only finding this amazing girl who loves me, but for finding love altogether. I hope that everyone here can meet someone great and get to see the beauty of our country from the road.

Based solely on what I could see from the bus, I definitely think Chicago, Atlanta, and Milwaukee were the most beautiful cities, although Green Bay is lovely too and small enough that that’s where I’d prefer to live. The most beautiful scenery I saw was in Door County, Wisconsin and the area around Chattanooga, Tennessee. Below are some pictures from Door County.

My girlfriend’s mom is incredibly abusive and controlling. Today, she took her phone and turned off the WiFi. So, worried about her, I texted her mom to give her a chance to let me speak with my girlfriend before I called the police for a welfare check. She ignored me, so I called the police and they went to their house. They called me and informed me she’s alright and that her mom was intentionally ignoring my texts. Well, I’m getting her a phone on my contract for Christmas and sending it tomorrow and texted her mom that if she takes that phone from her, which is in my mom’s name, I’ll have charges pressed against her for theft.

Way to go, dude. If more people had the guts to stand up to bullies and abusers, the world would be a much better place.

My grandma's last remaining sister just passed away. She's now the sole survivor out of 10 kids.

Also... he did forget. Ouch. I wrote something like "nice" in 11 am and he went "oh happy birthday" as if nothing happen. Obviously, I reacted very coldly to that and made sure he knows I'm very disappointed, not just because of yesterday but because of the past two months. Luckily he asked me if I want to talk about it today, so it appears that he cares at least a little bit.

Thank you. The most frustrating thing is that we didn't have any problems- he just wasn't ready for a relationship, and couldn't mix it with university. But he will be ready someday, and I'll have to see him with someone else and know that it could've worked between us if I came later. Argh. And we had so much in common- we were both the same age and in the same uni->army program, we had common interests and views, we had great chemistry and attraction. It all feels so... useless.
I swear that never in my adult or teenage life have I cried like this. Even when my first grandmother died years ago it didn't come close.
