Apparently it's a common jokey witticism in black churches. I think people are overthinking it.
Only in black UMC churches, as far as I know, although the AME may have adopted it.

Awomen is not a real word nor is it religious, it's a word designed to appease the atheistic feminists who have their head screwed on back wards.
Amen is not associated with gender at all, amen means in hebrew to "let it be so" or similar definitions.
On the contrary. Awomen is a sort of religious slang, a tongue in cheek phrase used by black Methodists in the Upper South.
