Scalise, he's less toxic than McCarthy and has the whole shooting story that boosted his popularity. Though I fear that if he's speaker some #resistance fighter who's been watching too much Joy Reid will try and finish the Bernie bros work

Ryan is staying until after the midterms. If the Republicans somehow meraciously maintain their majority then I doubt he retires.

He's not running for his own seat, how would he be able to un-retire?
Technically he doesn't have to be a member of the U.S house to be speaker, but no the next house republican leader will become speaker if the republicans hold the house

Probably McCarthy or Scalise, but Id like to see someone nobody would expect like Sean Duffy, Elise Stefanik, Will Hurd, Brian Mast, or Jaime Beutler. Someone young and telegenic that can contrast with the octogenarian Dem leadership
Of those only Mast and Duffy are in secure districts (though Stefanik has a weak challenger this cycle and has won her elections easily so far) but putting out someone who can be a good spokesperson and campaigner is probably the GOP's best shot at this point
