That's not what happened. He passed the ABO exam and became a board-certified opthalmologist, but later founded his own certification board to compete with the ABO (because he thought the ABO standards were too lax). His certification eventually expired after ten years and he saw no need to take the ABO exam again.

You're lucky that you support Rand Paul and not Hillary Clinton, otherwise you'd get harassed for being a hack that defends him to the death in every thread.
