Tracking precinct turnout reports on twitter, it seems as if turnout is extremely high across Michigan for the primary. Something to keep an eye on tonight.

I really, really hope El-Sayed has a chance. He's been possibly the most inspiring candidate of this entire cycle.

As long as it's not Thanedar I'll be happy.

I mean yeah, Thanedar is a f***king cancer, but Whitmer is meh and exactly the wrong kind of candidate to reconquer the Midwest for Democrats.

A guy named "Abdul El-Sayed" isn't the right candidate, even if he has a fantastic platform.

And Whitmer is not "OMG HILLARY CLONE" like some "Bernie Bros" think. She has a lot of pro-labor credentials. Plus she's led in every poll.

A guy with the middle name Hussein won Michigan by 16 points. I thought you were smarter than to fall for these ridiculous clichés.

Obama isn't a Muslim.

And no the median voter didn't believe he was one either, even if a significant number of morons did.

What issue do you have with Whitmer? She supports a $15 minimum wage, led the fights to expand Medicaid and opposing RTW, and is a long time labor union ally. Is El-Sayed to her left? Yes. Is she a useless mushy centrist? No.

Whitmer is probably to the left of every other Democrat nominated for Governor so far this year except for Ben Jealous. That's the silliest part.

Even to the left of Abrams?

Abrams wasn't even the most left wing candidate running in that primary.

Also, I am legitimately surprised at the number of Democrats celebrating pretty much a Sarsour clone getting elected to Congress.

Yes, and?

You legitimately think Linda Sarsour is a good future for the Democratic party?
1 Rep out of the likely 200+ Dems in 2018 wont make a difference. The election of Lamb didnt force the Dems to the center, nor did the election of AOC force them left.

No, but this has an impact. My father, for example, would be less likely to vote Democratic after this.
Because a muslim woman won the seat, and because she as pro-Palestinian views? Ill be honest, thats a bit weird that your dad, or any other voter for that matter, would not vote for a D rep or senator because that one from MI is against Israel, sort of.

Also, when you mentioned her, I had to actually look her up, and Im very active in politics and this forum.

My family are atheists. He doesn't like pro-religion candidates and would prefer the Democrats remain secular.
I really hate to break it to ya, but shes not advocating for Sharia Law. In fact, I have never heard, in any of her stuff or speeches, her use religion, in any case. Im pretty sure shes just a progressive/DS who happens to be muslim. Like Ellison, both are semi-religious, but dont inject it into politics. And trust me, even if they were, the R party is still quoting bible scripture and using Jesus for every argument, so its a pretty stark choice.

I don't know about Tlaib, but Linda Sarsour has multiple tweets where she basically argues that Sharia Law is actually really progressive.

I'm rooting for Davids, just because Welder is a Young Turks fan. That's basically the only reason.

Ian Conyers being absolutely destroyed is bringing me great joy.

Will Rashida Tlaib be the first Palestinian congressperson?
John Sununu and Justin Amash have partial Palestinian Christian ancestry.

Darrell Issa too I think.

The only progressive win I can see from yesterday is Tlaib winning in MI-13. Everything else seems like an establishment-fest.

Still good news out of Washington, yeah.

In what way are David's and Whitmer not progressive?

I'm just happy Davids won because Turner is a Young Turks fan. Oh my God do I f[inks]ing hate HATE HATE The Young Turks.

If you seriously think Sharice Davids falls into the same category as people like Manchin and Lipinski (or even Connor Lamb) then you're just deluded or intentionally being intellectually dishonest.

I dont know if you are referring to me, but based on the fact that you used the same people I used in my example, I will say yes.

No, they are not in the same category. Davids is in the center-Liberal Cataglory, while Lamb, Manchin, and Lipinski are on different parts of the Conservative Category.

It goes like this.

Categories in order from Right to Left: Conservative-Liberal-Progressive-DS

Sub-categories:Right/Center/Left

I'm not referring to you specifically but someone literally called her a Republican a few pages back.

Thankfully Kansas has a sore loser law, otherwise we'd be seeing an independent run for the Sanders candidate.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Case's vote on SSM isn't surprising, he's basically one of those irritating "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" types.

But that's still preferable to Mercado Kim, who is a female Asian Dan Lipinski, or Chin, who is even worse.

Her antisemitic Twitter rants and apparent pro-FGM attitudes.

How is she "pro-FGM"?

...after getting it watered down on something, iirc? This was also a discussion from the relevant thread.

Um, no?

http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/votes/votes.asp?ls_year=90&billnum=HF2621&session_number=0&year=2017&id=285

Omar voted for the bill. There were no significant changes to it.

Besides its not like a freshman Democrat would be capable of getting a bill significantly changed in a GOP legislature and it was passed almost unanimously, there was no need to make, concessions for extra votes.

HAHAHAHAHA

Goodnight, sweet prince.

To think Sabato moved the race from Lean D to Tossup because he entered lol.

They moved it back, lol:

My God, they actually KEPT it as "toss-up" right until T-Paw lost?!?

What rubes.

Might've been waiting to see who the Democratic candidate was too. Swanson vs. Pawlenty might've been a tossup.

I can't wait to vote tomorrow! I was considering doing absentee this cycle but decided to do it in-person since I like the traditional experience Curly
Who are you voting?
