Let's assume that this trend continues for another day. There will be 9 tests with 5000% positivity the next day.

Are you familiar with the expression GIGO? Garbage In, Garbage Out.

That's your model you're throwing garbage into. There's no reason to think the trend will continue or that it would continue at a linear rate of increase.
There is no trend.

So then no reason to assume the trend will continue.

Broke our record by 4K but Trump thinks it's all going to disappear soon.

They're both important numbers and should both be covered, as well as hospitalizations.

Haven't you guys heard of that case where somebody at a choir practice infected like 50 others around him/her? Churches shouldn't want there to be singing and shouting in the first place. Masks aren't perfect. Anyway, I'm not sure banning singing is a violation of the 1st Amendment. I do think closing churches is.

It's not illegal to go to a bar if you're under 21. The bar might not allow under 21 to enter so they don't have to ID you when you order a drink.

It looks like Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, and Colorado all had their most new confirmed infections in over a month today.

It really feels to me like the virus is unstoppable until we reach a certain immunity threshold, which perhaps only NYC right now has achieved.

Correction, it's only unstoppable for countries with failing administrations, like the United States and Brazil. Most of the rest of the world has gotten it under control (EU) or has completely eradicated it (Taiwan, NZ).

P.S. Nearly 62,000 new cases in one day. Fauci might be proven right yet again. 100k new cases a day is not that far off at this point.

Really makes it seem quaint all that debate we had about when peak is/was/will be. Everyone was off by months.

Children are much more likely to die in a car accident on their way to school than from covid.

Huh Even if you deliberately infect them?

Testing should grow as infections grow. Because when you find out you've been in contact with someone who has it, you want to get tested.

Yeah I'm not effing around with this crap until there's vaccine. Teleworking as much as possible. Trips to get groceries are about all I'm planning to do. Maybe some more family visits but we all wear masks. Still wash my hands after handling the mail.

I dunno. I wish my stepdad had lived to see Trump wear a mask--his response would help me better gauge these folks. But without that information, I feel like such immediate turnaround indicates a bot. That said, if they're not bots, it demonstrates how flipping important it is for Trump to wear a mask as an example.

Sorry about your stepdad. Sad

He is not going to have any coherent answer on that. The pro-lockdown crowd just expects everyone to stay in their homes until every single living organism on planet earth has a coronavirus vaccine. And they are completely dismissive of the negative side effects of that such as mass evictions, starvation, increasing national debt, more mental health crisises, etc. Since their side does not care about those issues I have decided that I do not care if some people die over this. Too bad.

Can't one think the lockdown wasn't long enough, based on the current situation of spiking cases, while not also knowing exactly how long it should have been? I'm not sure anyone knows how long it should have been.

So basically no plan whatsoever.

You can have a plan of course but no one knows if it's the best way to respond to an unprecedented situation.

Put a comedy on, get a bowl of ice cream, and try to relax. Nothing gained in getting bent out of shape over things out of your control.

I don't think gyms should close. Lots of people gained weight during quarantine. Also, being in good shape helps your immunity. That's one area where I think the cure is worse than the disease. Members should forced to maintain strict social distancing and wipe down their equipment after use. And the gyms should be thoroughly cleaned every day.

1) There are other ways to exercise without going to a gym
2) You can lose weight by watching your diet
3) In case you haven’t heard, there is no “immunity” to this yet. Perfectly otherwise healthy people have died.
4) In case you haven’t noticed by now, a not so insignificant number of Americans cannot be trusted to do the right thing.

By immunity I just meant a better immune system which helps you fight off the virus, and thus a greater likelihood of milder symptoms.

Commercial gyms are, for the most part, worse than useless.

If you're trying to lose weight, all you need to do is eat less (very high priority) and do cardio (much lower priority).  Gyms put huge emphasis on cardio (since that's what they sell), which tricks you into thinking that doing cardio is much higher priority than counting calories.  And then because there's so much friction around the experience of going to the gym (drive there, get dressed, warm up, exercise, shower, get dressed again, drive back) you end up totally demotivated and don't do your cardio, destroying your entire plan.  If you'd just made a realistic plan that didn't involve gym cardio in the first place you'd be in a much better spot.

Cardio is a lot more important for heart and brain health than losing weight, but it's still important.
