Trump is right about Nordstream. Merkel pretends to be anti-Putin and pro-Ukraine, while she's making money from a gas pipeline project that allows Russia to bypass Ukraine and assert great economic pressure on Kiev.

I actually agree - there is a lot of hypocrisy amongst European leaders on Russia, *especially* on Nordstream. Trump is right to point that out, as would any US administration.

That doesn’t excuse his childish antics and bizarre affinity for Putin at the expense of our allies, though.

Too bad you’re tucking your tail and running rather than doing anything about it, Bob.

I think I read that Iceland is a NATO member (since its foundation in 1949), and doesn't even have a military force at all. I guess they are just lovers and not fighters.

It's military value to NATO far surpasses what it could offer in terms of troops. Incredibly important air and naval base for NATO forces. Has all sorts of radar and air defence systems etc.

^^^^

Iceland is the fulcrum of the Atlantic defense. Read “Red Storm Rising” for a sense why.

They should just start sending Mattis or Pompeo or hell even Pence instead at this rate. Besides Mattis I don’t care for them, sure, but at least they behave like adults

Okay I got to get this off my chest. Does anyone else think Trump wants an alone meeting with Putin because he’s going to give Vlad the go ahead to hack our voter rolls this November? Am I just being overly paranoid?

Yes, because Vlad won't worry about having permission.

Whether one believes in the collusion theory or not, it’s utterly unconscionable for the Commander in Chief to elevate the words of a former KGB goon and autocrat to an equal footing with our intelligence agencies who defend this country.

Was Trump expecting this to turn out like North Korea? Did he go in thinking he would get some kind of bump for "making peace" with Russia?

Probably.

Republicans in Congress and their voters alike now have to make a choice.

They either stand with someone now evidenced to have interests which are not at all in line with our republic but are instead in line with Vladimir Putin.  Or they denounce Trump as powerfully as they can.

There is no middle ground anymore.  That you dislike him personally but like his policies is no longer relevant.  To continue to support this man is to actively and knowingly work against the United States.

They dont care. They want that SCOTUS

Pence would nominate judges that were just as conservative, if not more so.

I've held off on the question of impeachment pending the results of Mueller's investigations, but now I think we've reached a tipping point.  Trump needs to go.  Pence has plenty of bad qualities, but he's not a traitor.

Yup, I’ve crossed the Rubicon, too.

Sad state of affairs; I'd vote to impeach

Somewhat shocked by this response.

As am I, but I commend him for saying so.

Wow...Hurd is basically calling Trump a Russian asset here:

Agent of influence is a more accurate term than asset, based on what I have gleaned

Every person who voted for Trump in 2016 and still supports him today despite this event is now a traitor to the country.
lol

Yeah, that's quite hyperbolic. The truth is that the blue avatars are vapid, useful idiots... but not traitors.

Agreed. Honestly even though I’m as outraged as he is I’m close to putting Special k on ignore

What the hell will this be about?
Is the Orange Traitor going to scream at those Pubs who verbally chastised him today?
Is it just a Pub meeting or both parties?
Interesting.

That’s how you know it’s bad.

Trump's not wrong about our nation making many mistakes in our relationship with Russia.  This article was written in 2007 and appears prophetic.

Having said this, I certainly pray that Trump actually knows he's not wrong.  I'm still digesting today's events.

Anything to defend the God Emperor, apparently

I grant you that eleven years have passed since this article, and Trump has more than a bit of a conflict of interest on this issue.

That’s putting it a tad mildly, I think...

And anyways whether Buchanan is right or not (I don’t think he is) the POTUS cannot, ever, kowtow to somebody like Putin at the expense of the nation. Especially after how he talks about NATO allies. There’s *one* person he absolutely refuses to criticize, ever. That’s not “America First,” that’s “Trump First,” which neatly sums up his entire foreign policy style.

It is time for Trump's GOP critics to put up or shut up.

If it's really THAT bad, they need to call for his resignation, or resign themselves.

If it's not, they need to make a coherent case that it's not that people can understand.  After all, Al Capone denied wrongdoing  rather strenuously.

They'll stand up to Trump (and the erosion of American values they supposedly care about) when voters like YOU stand up to THEM and hold them accountable for not doing so.

Your argument is a half-assed way of avoiding responsibility for propping up and supporting a man who cares more about his Electoral College margin than he does about upholding the Constitution. Any post I see from you feigning concern about this situation without a denouncement of Trump and his enablers is concern trolling.

Right. They’re responding to political realities. If they were rewarded for bravery rather than cowardice, they’d be brave

I’ve been holding my tongue so, so well for the last 2 years, but that’s it - everyone has to go, down to the local Republican Dog-Catcher.

I wont vote for the GOP candidate in the House this year

but I will vote for them at the Gubernatorial level and Senate Level in 2020(I really dont like Merkley)

OR-Gov is this year

Has all this gone away?

I seemingly hear nothing about this "Disaster Summit" anymore.  It's not even a campaign issue.

Lots of Republicans here said they would vote Democratic for Congress; is that still true?

Dan Coats is still at his job, and hasn't been heard from in quite some time.  What does one make of this?

I mean the news is a bit like a firehose these days
